Sangakkara - Want to see Jos Butler open the innings in Test cricket

Same reason why Jason Roy failed as test opener in England.

 

In England, as top order batsman, you cannot play the bowl away from body and this fishing on offstump delivery is what LOI batters are used to. This is the exact reason why Jos Buttler failed for England. 

 

Sehwag, Hayden, Warner were not good in England.

 

KL Rahul for example showed great skill of resistance vs moving ball in England in first two tests but he was not able to do it consistently because those LOI habits popped up and couple of games later, he too couldn't resist himself long enough. Opening is a different challenge altogether in England. If Rahul bats at 5, he will be a better batsman than Bairstow and Buttler combined in whites.

Well worth a shot waise bhi baaki konsa koi mahaan choice hai unke pass. Butler is a good player of pace n bounce and about problem against moving ball well every has that issue . If he can find a way and in recent rohit sharma has found a way he also had issues against moving ball.

Yes he should open.  Crawley is quite loose & not working for them. 

Stokes & Baz might turn things around for Buttler in Test cricket

They'll score 500 in a single day against Bangladesh/SL on flat wicket.

Crawley deserves to be backed. He has much higher ceiling and is young as well. Jos Buttler should be kept away from test cricket, the more he is kept away from test cricket the more dangerous and destructive he will be in LOIs. When playing test cricket, it looked like he was under some sort of immense pressure and scrutiny.

I expect to see Moen Ali and Adil Rashid out of test retirement and  back in test squads before seeing Buttler as test opener .

Yes that I agree with. Even in tests he is better than boldstow at 4 or 5. Not as opener. He is mediocre as opener. 

 

Is gobar even better than rahula? I am doubting that tbh.

They should try Butler at opener and let him play his way and should not to shackle him. They always can go back to youngsters if experiment fails.It would be a shame to waste a talent like Butler.

They should invest in Crawley. He is an aggressive batsman and with some more experience, he can be extremely lethal in places like Australia and India. 

 

Buttler got his chances, has played over 50 tests. He would probably captain in LOIs now that Morgan is retiring. So, it is better to leave his test career where it is now.

I don't think so, Butler is a real talent who was never given any proper role in test cricket.When Jonny can make it big in tests so can Butler. Crawley has  played over 23 tests.It is not like he has not been given enough chances.Butler has dominated white ball cricket  everywhere, it would be last role of dice for him.
