I would blood Umran post-T20 WC. for now, he seems to have some issues with both control and ball selection. even if he plays as many T20s as possible, he might not have enough experience bt T20 WC.

thats what i meant, he is doing that short ball attack so well that he is giving umran strength + every other Pros over and he has so many pros

 We have a  fair idea now where Umran stands at international level. Right now he has just raw pace . Not enough control over line & length , yet to show seam movement on a consistent basis , No venom in bouncer , no change of pace , not enough yorkers in matches he played for india.You cannot take such a rookie to WC. 

Atleast he has to develop good control over line and length , little seam movement so that batters do not line up and ability to bowl some yorkers . Once he  reaches these levels he should and would be given chances . Then along the way he can add skills like change of pace , bouncers etc.

Was expecting he may take 12 months to achieve that since he has Styne to guide him . 

 Now BCCI has selected him for NZ A  for long format. I hope he plays in 2 matches out of 3 .This is where he has to show that he has control over line and length at pace , and can make the ball deviate a bit and get bouncer going . These are basic level of skill he has to have to start playing for india in short format.  His path of progress has to be through long format -then only he will have basics mastered. Once he starts bowling those balls at blind spot length at high pace with a little deviation at times , he will start showing results.

Lets judge him once we see his performance in NZ A matches , that should give us an idea where he is and does he really stand a chance at this moment  instead of abusing evryone  from BCCI , SELECTORS, DRAVID , ROHIT .

He played One  4 dayer vs WI , was picked for 3 T20Is and there was nothing to indicate that he can do something in WC. Let the guy  also show that he can deliver atleast to a reasonable level to start with.     

 

He is so much like Naseem - in height , physique  but higher pace ceiling. If we compare them - In yesterday's match do not recollect even a single bad ball till 

he got cramps which is almost nearly 3 overs. Control and ability to move the ball , even in 2nd spell he was attacking the stumps and almost got Hardik. 

It took Naseem almost 2 years to reach even this level.  So no quick fix magic fomulae but real hard work under good mentorship. 

We need to lower our expectation right now and give him time atleast  till next IPL end.

Umran is not ready for worl cup..but should be the project to prepare for post WC..he needs to develop short of good length stock ball on off or slightly out of off stump..thousands and thousands..bowls.. he needs to hit the same spot and high pace...

exactly i hae posted this earlier too...if umraan is a finished product then why do we need a bowling coach. a BHuvi does not require a bowling coach. avesh and arshdeep and umraan requires a coach. 

it is like the best bowler is not coached well but avesh and arshdeep who r both half as talented as umraan are being trained well. even if they do their best they wont be able to beat Australian fast bowlers where as Umraan has the potential to beat australian fast bowlers as well.

 

i also saw 2 balls in first over from Bhuvi at 145K...one in which LBW was given and one very next ball. did bhuvi bowl that fast.

 It looks like TM has strong faith in Avesh for whatever reason. And they feel Umran isn't ready yet for prime time. But at-least against a minnow they could swap out Avesh for Umran and see if he can hit the right spots.

Stupid India play so many meaningless games and we could gift this guy games to get the much needed experience he needed for a WC.

 

The biggest problem with Indian Cricket is that they dont understand how to develop and nurture young talent and prepare them.

 

You see this happen all the time in EPL, Rugby, Aussie Rules, American Football etc etc, but Indian Cricket is so far backwards and behind its not funny.

 

We should be pioneers in the sport in developing talent given our talent pool. Instead we gift games to Dhawan to lead, Kohli to play till he is dead and KL to get back into form.

 

Its madness.
