ESPNcricinfo has learned that Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and one of the owners of Delhi Capitals have successfully bid for the franchises.

CSK - Johannesburg

MI - Cape Town

SRH - Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth)

LSG - Durban

RR - Paarl

DC - Pretoria

This is a Cartel like behaviour... i mean no sports league around the world have been monopolised by the owners of one league.

 

CPL also they have the same names... Knight Riders, Royals. Even with this league the team names will be the same as IPL teams. Either that or these teams are being sold for peanuts..

I don’t think IPL teams own any other teams  of any other league. The names could be repetitive as there is no patent on names

Yes they do- Punjab Kings owns St Lucia Kings

Raj Royals own Barbados.

and Trinidad Knight Riders is KKR 

 

My point is all the teams they have acquired have the same names and same logo and branding.. so how are you differentiating a team's identities? You can retain their old brand name and still own the team and make money. How is Barbados now being called Royals make them in any way more better or profitable than their old name Tridents. Its the indian mentality of drawing attention to yourself making it all about yourself

Yup getting repetitive.. Indians need to learn how to relax, hopefully this sa league is not IPL'd with gaudy jersys and stupidly branded fours and sixes etc and has some of the original south African uniqueness a village charm. Else it will fail.

You lot can kick start the Chinese T20 league with a twist to their names. Beijing Zulmi has a nice ring to it.
