Khota Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 I liked the Miami Vice serial. Film I did not watch. He is not the top director out there.

Mann produced the series Miami Vice … Here we are discussing films directed by him! I rate him as an auteur where his style is observed in films such as Thief (a neo noir with tremendous street cinematography), the Keep (location and atmosphere), The Last of the Mohicans (a period piece), Heat (Robert De Niro v Al Pacino), Miami Vice (Director’s cut), etc. Edited October 22, 2022 by zen
ravishingravi Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 One of my absolute favorites. I have to go with Heat. The sound of gun shots from film still rings in my head. zen 1
zen Posted October 22, 2022 Author Posted October 22, 2022 (edited) The Last of the Mohicans is another of his popular films that people tend to be crazy about. Its score is fantastic: Edited October 22, 2022 by zen ravishingravi 1

None of his made the cut for me.

zen Posted October 22, 2022 Author Posted October 22, 2022 @Mariyam If you haven't watched The Last of the Mohicans (1992) give it a shot if you find the time. Mariyam 1
Ranvir Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 Heat is one the all time crime classics, absolutely brilliant. I also loved Collateral, a very stylish action thriller. Manhunter was also great and The Insider was another good thriller. I love his nighttime cinematography and his soundtrack choices. Miami Vice the TV show, Manhunter and Collateral all had great soundtracks, I used to listen to the Collateral one a lot. I still haven't seen Last Of The Mohicans or Ali, I'm sure I'll enjoy them. zen and coffee_rules 2
zen Posted October 22, 2022 Author Posted October 22, 2022 (edited) For Thief (1981), do yourself a favor to watch the Criterion restored version, which makes the film appear as if it was released recently (otherwise you may not get the same experience): Edited October 22, 2022 by zen ravishingravi 1

Sooda Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 Of those I have seen: Heat, Last of the Mohicans, The Insider, Ali, Miami Vice, Collateral He has a distinct visual style. Collateral is always worth a rewatch, not least because of the fantastic lead duo (how cool is Cruise in a negative role, super actor), but also the shooting of the gleaming LA streets zen 1

The Realist Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 Mann has a truly distinctive style. The night time cinematography in Collateral is breathtaking. ravishingravi, Vijy and zen 3
Ranvir Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 I just watched Manhunter again. What a brilliant film, very atmospheric and sinister. Almost makes the Anthony Hopkins Lecter movies feel campy in comparison. ravishingravi 1
Nikhil_cric Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 Always wanted to read "Last of the Mohicans" but never got a chance to do so. I've only watched Heat and Public Enemies and I really liked Public Enemies - Christian Bale and Johnny Depp were fantastic from memory.
