Hooda scored a 100 in Ireland and 33 off 17 in the first T20 in Eng but was benched. It is not about writing any one off but having the courage to move on and field youngsters. Aus could play Green over Smith, who is a legend. Eng has picked Brooks over Joe Root. Finch is planning to move on too after this WC iirc. We still see these Rohit-Kohli in a T20 11 I get your point but Hooda is no where close to Cameron Green. Green is being protected to become the next Kallis type player. Check his first class records. Harry Brooks too is the future. this is not the same scenario. I do think on the flip side someone like Tyagi or Umran should have been thrown in the deep end in Australia like Pak have done with Naseem etc. Sgattick10 1

They are red-ball or ODI specialists. Yes, even here there is a talk of Kohli/Rohit retiring in T20s after this WC. GOAT is a hollow nomenclature. Root and Smith are GOAT players for their countries and they can easily fit them into any set up if they wished. If they played for India, they would probably be in Ind 11 too

They are backing him but he would easily walk into our side. He can bowl too. Smith I agree his loi game has gone down. Surprising though he was the original SKY type player who would hit in different parts of the field. Also he doesn’t bowl so he is the most easily dispensable of the fab4. For Nzl it is T.I.N.A factor with Williamson

T20s teams are ideally chosen based on optimal combination. Hooda or whoever does not need to be a potential ATG to be in the 11. If he does the job now, use him. The issue with India is that it picks these “legends” first (even when they anre struggling) and tries to build a team around them. When it should be based on how you want to play the game, win it, etc. Now Ind won against Pak. But if we continue to field these guys who play a knock here and there to keep their place for a few more years, it is a hollow victory from the big picture PoV. Edited October 25, 2022 by zen

Similarly, Aus can fit in Smith at 3 but Aus has taken the decision to back power hitters like Marsh, who is inconsistent.

He doesn’t have the 5th gear both Rohit and Rahul have when set. Shaw I agree but seems like he has a lot of external issues from what I hear. Sometimes we don’t know the full picture. Pant should replace Rahul right away. apart from that this team especially batting picks itself. I do think Ro and Ko should call it quits after this tournament but they deserved to play here because we don’t have good enough backups. I like Axar Patel but as I said he won’t work in Australia and same goes for Hooda. Gill will do well in ODIs but don’t think he has that xfactor that Rohit and Rahul had in their prime.
vvvslaxman Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 They are sending Stoinis at 5. We send Axar patel lol CricketWise 1

Gill has improved a lot. Has been successful in Aus. Hooda, Samson, etc. all have good game for Aus conditions. Irrespective of the results here, Ind should have moved on from Rohit-Kohli after the last T20 World Cup. MSD played a good knock in the SF. If he hadn’t retired, he could have played in the last WC too. India could have moved on from Dhoni before the 2019 WC.

Since the cycle is 2 world t20s and 50 over world cup, you have to back our biggest star players unless something unforeseen happens like it did in Aussie tour 2020. I still think bowling combo is the bigger problem

zen Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 If Smith or Root played for India, he would be at #4 not SKY And such decision have the roots (no pun intended) in the type of sports culture that the country has
Number Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 (edited) Pitches so far have been juicy. First 10 overs teams have struggled to score. Early summer/late winter conditions with start of the season pitches being fresh are the reason we are not seeing many high scoring games. Edited October 25, 2022 by Number
Nikola Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 Didn't watch match but seeing scoreboard it seems like australia again played pretty dumb. Finch 31 of 42! Marsh & Warner all batted way too slow. They had golden chance to get NRR in positive today if they would have attacked bit. Not sure about their strategy but they don't seem like they are confident enough to win worldcup.

SL also bowled very well generally apart from Hasaranga. Stoinis won the game single handedly.
