Look at the depth. Chahar is coming in at 10. Heck even Hazlewood can bat. They have 2 spinners 4 seamers. Bravo/Hazlewood can bowl in death Only miss is leg spinner Umm in ipl dhoni is t20 prima Donna...but get your point
Vijy Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 no amount of wishlists will take away the reality that our top 5 do not bowl and our bottom 4 do not bat. calling likes of mohsin, shami, boobi (in LOIs), boom, etc. bowlers who can bat is an insult to genuine bowlers who can bat (like Cummins in T20s). Unless they work around that make up this charade will continue. You will be forced to play a near perfect game every match in a world t20. That is not going to happen. In 1983 we won because our tail-enders put up some useful score in the back end and our part timer stepped up with ball. Tendulkar's part time bowling alone have earned us some crucial wins. One of the most famous is 2001 Eden Garden win where he bagged 3 vital wickets with bowling. 10 years back Same Alex hales and Luke wright were running away with the match. Yuvi cleaned them up both. Your team selection should be based on this. Not 5 super star batsmen who can't bowl, 4 wanna be super start bowlers who can't bat. This cycle will continue.
vvvslaxman Posted November 14, 2022 Author Posted November 14, 2022 You can cry from rooftop about positive intent in power play. But you better your XI right. Maximum depth. You may play aggressively for a couple of matches. After a couple of collapses and implosion you will retreat to same old conservative crap. All teams try to do and find themselves in this position. In 1983 India had great number of utility players. If you want all out attack your combination has to be just right. Buttler bat & wk Hales bat hitter Salt hitter Stokes Genuine all rounder Brook hitter Moeen All rounder Livingstone bat and bowl Sam Curran All rounder Chris woakes can bat and bowl Jordan can bat and bowl Adil Rashid bowl and can bat and click occasionally

You can be consistent if you have players to handle crisis all the way down. It is basic. Pakistan were like 120 for 4 in 17 overs. They had no depth to finish it well. Played like headless chickens and lost their way because they loaded theri side with bowlers and a couple of bowlers who can bat. SRT100 1
GautiMaan Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 They can look at the 2007 t20 world cup squad for depth, you had guys like Yuvi, Yusuf, Irfan. Even Jogi was there because of his utility. The other thing needed is flexibility in the lineup, they had the audacity to open with Yusuf in the final then, now the top order is untouchable and we hardly see promotions for hitters even if the situation calls for it

rkt.india Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Leave everything aside, just concentrate on hitting sixes. Target 10 sixes per match in bilaterals on flat pitches. Hales alone hit 7 sixes against us.

vvvslaxman Posted November 14, 2022 Author Posted November 14, 2022 Just now, MultiB48 said: Bowling is their strength,no point weakening it,they needed someone like Stokes but they had Nawaz or ifitikhar. They have 4 fast bowlers. 2 all rounders in Shadab and Nawaz. Nawaz has done well on flat pitches. But on these surfaces he is not really that good. Even Shadab had his moment only at the SCG. That is like 6 lower order batsman who can't be expected to make runs.

And towards the end it's always a lottery ,just coming in and scoring quickly ain't easy that too on that pitch, that's part of t20 . Pakistan needs a batting all-rounder like jayasuriya instead of likes of Nawaz or chachu and one more quality middle order batsman in place of Masood. At some point this tactic will backfire. They consciously targeted Mohammad wasim. Wade Targeted Shaheen Shah afridi, Kohli targeted him too,. The conditions were uber friendly for fast bowlers. But their batsmen were not good enough. Same thing happened against ZImbabwe. Conditions were good for fast bowling. They restricted them to 130. But couldn't chase 130. Against India thanks to our inept bowlers they got away to post 159. straighttalk Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 If I am the selectors..I would choose this team Mayank or Prithvi Pant Gill/Iyer- depending on pitch.. Sky Samson Pandya Jadeja or Sundar or Hooda or Tewtiya or Viyer or Tilak Verma D Chahar or Thakur or someone who can bat and bowl Kuldeep or Bishnoi Bumrah Mohsin or Arshdeep or Umraan or someone else Prefer the seventh batsman to be leftie and be a bowler. Exact combination can be chosen based on condition. Competition is high..selectors should convey multi skill players have preference .that would incentivise players to focus on fielding and secondary skills

Imagine having 8 one-dimensional players. Once they fail in their department you see 8 players with no confidence. Whole team will go through motions.
putrevus Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 They need to get rid of fear of failure . After CT207 Indian teams under Kohli were playing not to lose rather than trying to win. That is why Kohli's captaincy became stale. Unfortunately it has become become even worse under Rohit. You cannot succeed in any sport if you are fearing failures. They need a new captain and coach with new thinking.
cricketfan28 Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 First step is to get rid of seniors and then give the young team enough time to learn and adapt, nothing exceptional should be expected in the first 2 years.
aditya19 Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Squad should be condition based, in australia bhuvi, ashwin, harshal etc are useless. In uae these might be good. T20 8/11 players should be young.
vvvslaxman Posted November 15, 2022 Author Posted November 15, 2022 We can pack the side with so many youngsters. But if we go with similar set up of bowlers who can't bat and batsmen who can't bowl we will fail every single time in the world T20. Even the best of best sides have collapses. Somebody has to step up in the back end. What some batting line up does is in order to prevent collapses they start very slowly. putrevus 1
jalebi_bhai Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Samson (Bat) Pant/Kishan (Wk-bat) SKY (Bat) Kohli (Bat) "conditional role" Hooda (Bat AR) Hardik (Bat AR) Tewatia/Jadeja (AR) D. Chahar (Bowl) Kuldeep Yadav/Bishnoi (Bowl) Bumrah/Umran (Bowl) Arshdeep/Mohsin (Bowl) I know some controversial names in there but let me explain the structure of the team. Top 3 will be given full freedom to attack the bowling. I know Pant has had his struggles but I think it's time he's given a decent run of consecutive games as an opener. If he flops even in that role, then discard him and play Kishan. Samson and SKY are intent merchants so let them do their thing. Now we come to Kohli. I know most have excluded him from their team but I still believe that he can provide value. He comes in at 4 only if we have lost 2 wickets in the powerplay. Otherwise hold him back towards the back end of the innings to take down the pacers. Say what you want about Kohli's strike rate, he's still one of few players we have who can attack high quality pace. His role needs to evolve though and if he's not willing to evolve, he can also be discarded. Hooda and Hardik will be the batting all-rounders. Hooda is a polarising figure on ICF, but imo he also deserves a fair shot in a somewhat fixed role. Hardik at 6 to be the finisher. I know he wants to bat at 5, but he needs to be a team player and play the role of the finisher. He's experienced enough now. Tewatia or Jadeja at 7 as the all-rounder. Pretty much self explanatory. Chahar at 8. Powerplay specialist bowler who is a useful hitter. Gives you all the same bowling skills as Buzdil Kumar but crucially, isn't a coward. Kuldeep or Bishnoi at 9 as the leggie. Again self explanatory. Bumrah at 10 as the pace spearhead with Umran being his understudy. Arshdeep or Mohsin at 11 as the left arm pacer. This team will give you reasonable batting depth and as well as 7 bowling options. We don't have England's talent pool wrt skillset so let's play to our strengths till we produce that talent pool. Discard Rohit, KL, Buzdil, Ashwin, DK, Shami, Chahal from the squad.

Squad has to be developed . what we miss is leg spin allrounders , true fast men - need to give people like chahar a chance who can bowl fast legspin .
