Have we wasted Gill-Shaw?

Yea it's really sad to see him decline so young unless he is actually older than stated age. His reflex is gone. He is not as technically gifted as say a Tendulkar or root. It's going to be hard for him to hit those peaks he reached again.

he looks to be at least 3-4 years older than reported age

Gill's batting does not inspire any confidence.   Glad that someone is voicing concern.  Amidst all the criticism of senior members (rightly so), Gill's consistently inconsistent performance almost got brushed under the carpet.

he is taking it too easy. needs to be shown that there are younger & hungrier players chasing behind him.

What worries me is how pathetic he has been against spin.   Yes, bangladeshi pitches are sluggish and assist spin bowling.  But he was unable to make any contact with 50% of the deliveries he faced against spinners (especially mehedy and shakib).  There was a lbw shout almost every 3 balls while he batting. LOL. Don't recall any Indian opener being so hopeless against spin.  (Only Dhawan comes to mind)

Watch Ashwin's video. All the tall guys struggled on this low bounce turn at Mirpur. Ashwin adopted a crouched stance to encounter that low bounce. Also his natural game is attacking. He is not really known for defending every ball. Everyone who did that perished.

if ashwin, who is a bowler who can bat (or a bowling AR), knows how to crouch and handle the pitch, then Gill could also do the same. he is fully absorbing the culture of "no accountability" that the seniors have created.

Yea. What is this? Kindergarten where the teachers spoon feed you everything. Gill needs to grow up. If ash can do it then so can he.

Good observation.   This is what worries me the most.   Our no.7 batsman realises how to tackle spin on such surface. But the opener 'Gill' looks clueless. It should hv been the other way round.

Question is how did he averge 70 in domestics with such a poor game vs spin.

I dont follow much of domestics.  But it seems Bangladeshi pitches are little different.  They are slower and sluggish. So, lesser bounce.  He looks cluless as soon as pitches are not of his liking.

he needs to bend over and take it... should have gotten good at it after seeing how everyone behaves around the seniors.

Gill is getting chances, he will either excel or perish.

Hope he doesn't go KL Rahul way. Boom or bust. His batting used to be much more secuer when he was in his early days playing domestic. If he plays the same domestic  now he might struggle.  That late adjustment, feet movement it is all gone now. He is trying to play the ball after pitching.

They did discuss a little more about it in the below video. Discussion happens from 38:24 mins to 44:00 mins. As per them Shaw has lots of disciplinary issues

And that's despite playing international cricket. His case is peculiar, teenagers only improve on growing up.

What can be the reason, IPL? Or this happened only after he met Mr. Rathour?
