Also the foreign boards earn sizable YouTube revenue from Indian viewers (who won't ever subscribe to their Sky/BT but can watch their YT videos).

Bang on.
But BCCI with so much money cant even have a good sophisticated app..

I have seen Windies, England, and Aussies upload so much content including match highlights and interviews on youtube.  BCCI does none of that. It seems they are missing out on another source of revenue.

Was exactly going to say this. Obviously BCCI doesn’t need the extra you tube revenue. Atleast give the fans something for free because they nichodofy every penny for their content anyways.

funnily Srilankan cricket has the most watched YouTube video ever in a game and that doesn’t even feature Srilanka   .

I remember after the 2011 WC there were 1hr+ long video highlights on YT of all the WC games someone uploaded. I would watch Ind vs Aus, Ind vs Pak, and Ind vs SL every week before they got copyright strikes. :cantstop:

I think Nidhas trophy final is like taht for SL.

So far they have made an estimated amount  of 300k from youtube.  That is far less than what DK won as prize money for MOM

youtube is not some social media platform.. it is the most watched thing in the world ( excl whatsapp).. when will bcci heads realize this..

imagine the official shorts of umesh yadav & shami dismissing batsmen clean bowling them, getting them out with bouncers.. imagine the impact it would create on 12 year olds to pick up the ball and bowl fast or the motivation to try the smarts of Ashwin - guile, drift, dip & beauty of his bowling in tests.. what the hell is stopping them from doing it when all the boards are already doing it and promoting the game amongst their countrymen plus monetizing it.. when will we get to see SKY, kohli, rohits outstanding knocks in India with HD quality.. is this due to some soviet era socialist mindset that makes them worry about losing some cut of revenue to youtube that is stopping them?

In Australia, the highlights packages by Cricket Australia is top quality.

There is actually a lot of Indian content in there too. (only when India is playing in Australia)

People are missing the point BCCI contracts are different from other boards. BCCI has over the air rights and digital rights. The digital rights might restrict them from uploading highlights on YT because Google is a competitor to the digital rights company like Disney etc. The contracts for BCCI are worth in billions compared to few hundred ks profit from YT.

But BCCI can negotiate it that they are free to upload on YT as well. I dont watch American sports, but I can search YT and see highlights for entire NBA and NFL matches uploaded from their official handles.

Its also about promoting the sport and brand of Indian cricket/IPL. Imagine foreign people getting exposure to IPL highlights, those are potential viewers. No one outside of India is going to BCCI website

I can understand BCCI not uploading latest match highlights on youtube due to rights agreement that they have with STAR but they can upload old matches highlights. Other boards like ECB, CA or WICB uploads highlights of old matches, BCCI can do the same. We do not have any video of Kapil dev breaking Richard Hadlee record of most wickets. They can also do Anil Kumble top 10 wickets or Javagal Srinath top 10 wickets. They are so many great batting innings of Indian batsmen or bowling innings of indian bowlers that they can upload and generate good revenue from them and also promote the game
