I would play Axar in the 1st Test to give Jaddu more time to get his fitness back and also noting its a 4 test series. Jaddu can be a lethal weapon over a long tour.

Jaddu is playing ranji so yes he will take his time.

I rate Axar very highly in Indian conditions, hasn't put a foot wrong till now. Even his bating returns will improve with more matches under his belt.

 

Kuldeep has X factor, probably our biggest weapon in super flat conditions, and full of confidence atm.

 

Ashwin looks old/jaded, always had poor fitness and that will affect his bowling. But with improved/clutch batting and LHB threats in Warner, Khawaja, Head, Carey can still be backed. 

 

Jaddu is our best overall package, though coming back after a long break. I feel his test bowling has declined since 2019 RSA series, thankfully his batting went in upward direction and is among our top 3 batsmen irrespective of conditions.

 

All are so good in their own ways, pick any 3 of them and that spin unit backed by Siraj/Umesh should do the job. Will come down to our batsmen and catching.

Axar's superior batting abilities tilt it in his favor but he can be superflat on pattas where Kuldeep can pick wickets and restrict scoring. Kuldeep can't hold the bat though.

I would play Axar as a batsman ahead of KL and play all off Ash, Jaddu, Kuldeep and Axar.

 

I know it wouldnt happen.

Im fairly certain Ashwin has been more successful batting in the last 12-18 months compared to Kohli (at the very least comparable) esp in subcontinental conditions.

 

Seeing Kohli with that Bollywood face that he gets out to ball of the century is irritating.

I am fairly certain Axar Patel will play next few tests in India. If he fails then he will be replaced. It looks to be between Ashwin and Kuldeep at this point. I am a Ashwin supporter but for sure he is not getting younger and had disappointing performance in Bangla. 

 

I feel they will start with Jadeja, Ashwin, Axar  and see how it goes.

 

There is zero chance that all 4 get to play. No way Rohit, Pujara, Rahul, Virat will sit out.  That along with keeper and 2 fast bowlers is 7 positions already. This leaves 4 positions for Gill, Iyer, Jadeja, Ashwin, Axar and Kuldeep.

These 50 runs or even 30 by no.8-11 are goldust. Cannot be ignored that easily.

 

Also surprised that dropping Jadeja got some votes in poll.

they should be batting higher up. 

 

Its become standard story of 7-11 saving us.

 

People might have wanted to rest Jaddu a bit after injury
