Chakdephatte
It is clear that domestic players get 4-5 chances at best to prove themselves. Guys who performed in junior level recently are handed debuts early and sometimes backed despite struggling. And this happens when teams know they won't be able to retain them after mega auction (3 years). Average age at debut for domestic players must be over 27. Anuj Rawat may get better with time, but how come he finds a place over hundreds of hardworking domestic players. We will be able to find more players like Rinku, Gaekwad, Tripathi if we scout deep and not rely too much on expecting unready players to deliver soon. (Exceptions apply) In fact, two of our best finds of last decade were picked by MI for 10 lacs each. Examples follow in next post. Chakdephatte
• Iyer (U-19) played over 100 games with a strike rate of 125. Jitesh, same age, made his debut last year. • Rinku played as specialist fielder for some years. Got regular chances only last year. • Ruturaj was dropped after 3 matches. Patidar, ditto. Jagdeeshan too. • Mandeep, Unadkut, and Hooda always found some franchise despite being useless. They were U-19 guys. the don
Subcontinent has weird fascination with u19 cricket. This includes Bangladesh and Pakistan. The reality is u19 is a very poor standard of cricket and half those guys struggle to become even decent first class cricketers. SecondSlip
@Chakdephatte DC brought in some u19 kid Abishek Porel as Pant’s replacement. He has look extremely out of depth in the games he has played!

rkt.india
There is hardly any current domestic cricketer who hasn't played u19 at some point in his career. U16-u19 are the building blocks. Some succeeds, some don't. Rinku, jitesh all played u19 at some point growing up.

Bumrah was also backed by MI.Gaekwad is getting constant run in IPL , what else do you needed. if backing a run of mill player like Harpreet Singh Bhatia or a youngster, teams would back a youngster. India had 3 main bowlers Ishan porel/Mavi/Nagarkoti. But the guy who surged ahead of them was Arshdeep from the same batch. You never know who will do better in international. Agree to the general sentiment though that they came through the same system. Edited April 15, 2023 by Chakdephatte
tapandrun
Younger Ind batters lacks power and innovation, there is no younger player who is able to crack t20 game. And to top it off they also lack intent. Thats why Ind has to re-cycle player like Karthik. Player like SKY and Jitesh making Ind debut in late 20s or early 30s in T20i is an example of this, earlier at this age they would never make it to Ind team. Sky and Player like Jitesh knows the only way they have a shot at Ind selection is by T20, so they have mold their game that way and able to get into Ind team. In IPL even uncapped overseas players find it difficult to make a place in 11 and if selected make a positive mark- Only Marsh was able to do it. Mayers- WI intnl had to wait for a season to make in into playing 11. Scouting for a batter it very difficult, you will need to track a batter for year or more check if they are capable of playing at IPL level and do not have any obvious flaw. Hence making scouting difficult , for bowler scouts can check if they have mystery or something special for a spinner and for faster bowler if they have pace and bounce or not and then they can be invited to a camp for further trials but for batters its v.hard and to add to this Ind domestic has only 1 t20 tournament (SMAT) and they do not play any other league so v.v. hard to scout a batter and to add to this there are no A side tour for t20s. U-19 players get IPL contracts as their names are already flying in the in cricketing circuits and it has become a know thing if you can stack your team wtih as many possible ind intnl you increase the chances of making into a stronger IPL team and for these U-19 names who are already floating have a good chance of making into intnl side hence the IPL team flocking around them .We just saw that during Mavi and Mukesh Kumar auctions, both didn't have a good domestic credentials but their names were floating for Ind selection IPL -teams wanted them badly. Now that Mavi is not able to make it into playing 11 and Mukesh Kumar set aside after just 4 matches into IPL, shows how teams are picked- they need ind intnl players Kkr took a bet on Mavi, Gill and Kamlesh hoping 1 of them will makes into ind. side but by the time Mavi and Gill came to Ind team they have moved to other IPL teams. Also picking known ind. (domestic/intnl) player attracts sponsors too. Edited April 16, 2023 by tapandrun
