Norman Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 Oval is known for being a flat batting friendly wicket and looking at the success of English batters in the recent past.... Can we employ this strategy here? Yes I know it's improbable under a phattu coach like Dravid but I hope Rohit or Kohli ingrain this into the team for this one game.... We have Gill, Kishan, Kohli, Rohit etc who are all capable of playing at more than run a ball. And there's Rahane who was striking at 170 in the IPL. I mean what is to lose here? We will lose any way even if we play the same old way.
zen Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 England has mastered "Bazball" by playing it for a number of years, tailoring its cricket, including mindset accordingly whether in internationals or domestics ... Eng has failed multiple times as well understanding that to win, one needs to accept failures as well. India does not have that sports culture (in fact, the team is likely to play safe as we saw even in the T20 SF which is suited to "Bazball"). Many players are not aligned with such an approach unless the pitch helps and bowlers bowl badly.

Eng has worked towards playing in such a fashion in other formats (creating players with both the skills, attitude, mental strengths to look past failures) and then brought it to tests too.

Next best strike rate for India in the last 2 years is Shreyas Iyer who has a strike rate of 66. Then Gill 56. Even Axar is 55. Rohit 48, Rahane 46, Kohli 44, Pujara 40. Norman 1
Lone Wolf Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 Our batting line up isn't that talented enough yet to adopt that strategy. English players have far more shots in their arsenal than ours. You can try ofc but how will they suddenly get that skillset? Lord 1

They are both in the last phase of their careers and just not in the same form as they were in their peak. They will make excuses but we already have seen even in IPL they struggled against quality bowling. The pathetic part of this is that if the pitch is spin friendly (which it likely will be) for the first time in a long time with these players it actually hurts India than helps with both Jadeja and Ashwin being absolutely pathetic last few years and the team showing no faith in Kuldeep, Bishnoi and other wrist spinners. Comparison technique. It is inevitable 1 out of 4 will have highest score. 40,20,10,5 in the next match it will be 20,10,40,5. They will compare one mediocre player with another one and say "He is better than him"
vvvslaxman Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 Kuldeep not being part of the XI is a big miss. Any other SENA team would play him in every Test. Tukloo leach is a regular for them. Norman and nevada 2

Jadeja averages 37 with bat and 22 with ball last 3 years.Ashwin 23/18. Both POTS in BGT. Pathetic If its spin friendly, they are a MUST. I'm confident even Kohli will contribute. Rohit might not. AKane Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 Not to compare with individual sports but it is like asking a baseliner to serve and volley in tennis or a counter puncher to go on attack in boxing.... it might work but likely not against a strong opponent. India's strength is dour batting and spin - that is what we should focus on. If Pujara scores 70 or 80 batting a whole day and Ashwin and Jadeja open the bowling like they do in India ........ so be it.

Likewise someone will point out that Jadeja averages 17 with the ball in India and 34 with the ball outside India. People are so anti-spin ....... Edited June 2, 2023 by AKane Lord 1

In any case their batting contribution is gonna be important given our top order.

Even now we have capable replacements In pace like rana kuldeep sen etc. They just need chances.

Rohit and coolie should not play. Period. But they will. They will drag their careers on and on till they bore us to death. As long as these brain dead fans worship them, nothing will change. Strength is pace? Please ...... Where we have control of pitches it is always spinner friendly pitches being built. How many times have we seen countries whose strength is pace, at home open bowling with spinners? India does it many times with Ashwin/Axar/Jadeja opening the bowling in tests. Even a spinner like Warne never opened bowling at home when playing in Aus alongside McGrath/Lee/Gillespie etc. We can talk the talk about pace but we will walk the walk with spin when we control conditions. Its tough to build pitches like SENA in India due to weather. However whenever they are built, our pacers have done well. See their numbers in India. Other countries don't cry about spinners too.

nevada Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 Don't think so. Gill and maybe Kohli to an extent are capable of scoring quick but we don't have Pant to ensure the pace is maintained till the end. I hope we don't have the typical first overseas innings collapse this time. So tired of watching it happen again and again.
