Kohli with no back foot game and cut shot always played into hands of Ali or Lyon.Even Green looks more comfortable on back foot.

98 from 38 overs.

One session 98 runs  in 38 overs with 5 wicket sin hand. It is doable.  As a comparison to the Gabba test. India needed 98 runs in 19.2 overs with 6 wickets  in hand. Pant scored 55 out of the remaining 98 runs

This guy is probably second best wk batter after Pant already.

That's the whole point of backfoot play.

The declaration looks a bit silly now...  England gained Nothing from it.  Root would have added 40-50 runs & it would have been the difference.

 Still all results are possible. England two wickets away. Earlier the better. From Australian perspective if they whittle down the target to 50 or under then it is a matter of couple of mini cameos.

Khawaja doing the right thing , no need to go for quick runs, if they play out all overs they will reach the trarget.

That idiotic decision by Eng on Day1 to declare early is likely to cost them this test.  Stokes probably thought Aus were a minnow side like India.

In his prime yes...  Cut is easier to play against spin as you need to use depth of the crease with transferring the weight on backfoot. 

 

Vs Pace it requires skill & ability to judge length quickly & faster reflexes & footwork & fast hands. 

 

His coach probably didn't teach him all that & it didn't came naturally to him.

The way he played AJmal was by dancing down the wicket. he met every single ball with center of bat when he wlaked down. He did not miss any ball going past the edge. That ability diminished over a period. Never used the depth of the crease well like say Aravinda De Silva, Sangakkara who was the toughest batsman Ajmal ever bowled to according to him. Sangakkara averages 132 against Ajmal in Tests.

I don't think he is worried about losses. He already made t hat clear when they lost to NZ by 1 run. Even that match was winnable.
