rageaddict Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 Raining very heavily there today and same are the chances for tomorrow. So unlikely this would happen .

Bumrah would be clutching his abdominals if he had to play 4 in a row as well. Although aus had a 10 day break so no excuses i suppose.

They need to drop Warner and play Murphy maybe.

Neser is a classic fit for Eng conditions, and his batting has improved so much that I would trust him over green as batter. drop green, bring in neser. drop hazel or starc and bring in morphy Edited July 25, 2023 by Vijy
Norman Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 So much rona dhona by the English media and fans in the past couple of days. They are trailing the series 1-2 but complaining about how it's unfair for a side to lose the Ashes even after drawing the series 2-2. Will be hilarious if Australia wins at the oval shuts them up forever.

Rain robbed England, but this is the risk when you are trying to win from 0-2 down. The stars had to perfectly align and every little thing had to go in their favor.
Vijy Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 it would definitely have happened if not for the rain IMO. and had the first 2 tests gone their way (they were somewhat close), Aus would have received a 5-0 thrashing nevada and Lord 2
sage Posted July 29, 2023 Author Posted July 29, 2023 wouldve been an ATG series if the scoreline going into this 5th test was 2-2

Australia dropped way more easy catches than England, that drop of Crawley in 3rd test was super expensive. One can say, if Lyon wasn't injured and Australia fielded sensibly, England would have never drew the series. More than Wood and Woakes, Moeen was the impact player here, always got wickets during important moments especially of Smith/Labu/Marsh.

I agree that Lyon's injury was important, and it was indeed out of Aus control. both teams made selection blunders too, but that is also within their own control. Strongly disagree about moeen being more of an impact player. Wood softened up all batters, so that others reaped the reward.

In that case poor catching was solely England's fault too in first 2 tests, doesn't mean that "they could have won had they held their catches". Wood was effective, but Moeen got crucial breakthroughs at the right moments. The Gabba win was not possible had Washington Sundar not hooked Cummins for six, moments matter not fifers/four-fers.

I was not the one who made the poor catches argument. You were the one who brought it up the first time. Catching is definitely in the control of both teams. Rain is not. Coming to "moments win matches", a team of 11 Moeens will win very few matches. One may remember the flashy moments, but there is plenty of grind in tests. without that, the moments will not even happen. Wood and Woakes were far more important than Moeen. I'll let you have the last word since you're not going to convince me, and I'm not going to convince you. It is quite apparent now Edited August 8, 2023 by Vijy

I'll let you have the last word since you're not going to convince me, and I'm not going to convince you. It is quite apparent now In your earlier post, you insisted that had England held their chances, it would have been 5-0, completely discrediting Australia's performance in those tests. Sure, it would have been 3-2 had it not been raining in the 4th test. Also, you don't need 11 Moeens to win tests just like you don't need 11 Joginder Sharmas to win a T20 world cup. It was Dhoni's tactical genius to select a slow bowler for the final over to increase the chances of a boundary catch. Moeen has this annoying ability to look completely harmless and suddenly get important wickets at an important time. I remember watching a session in the 4th test where Labuschagne and Smith looked rock solid with England bowlers looking flat (Wood at 135 kph and Woakes trundling), out of nowhere Moeen gets both out with soft dismissals opening up the game for England. Even in the final test, Australia were aiming for a win until Travis Head got out to Moeen and that gave confidence to Woakes/Broad to clean up the rest. I'm glad he's not touring to India this time.
