Orthodox finger spinners don't have the revolutions to cause false shots.  So they are inherently defensive and lack consistent wicket taking threat

Simply can't play specialist finger spinners nowadays. They either have to be real hitters or batters who bowl a bit.

If at all this guy and the "balance" he provides cannot be avoided, why can't he bowl at the death?

Let him dart full and flat outside off stump with 5 outfielders.

His defensive bowling is more useful there than in the middle overs where we need more wickets .

Not sure why we haven't tried this.

We have Bumrah, Siraj and Pandya for death overs, Jadeja is good in middle overs he atleast doesn't give away much, the baffling selection is Ashwin who has no utility

Siraj, Thakur, Shami and Pandya can take wickets in the middle overs more than Jadeja can. Jadeja does give away plenty on a flat track . Him and Sundar being absolutely toothless in the middle overs allowed Australia to score 350 in the last ODI.

I don't agree with the Ashwin selection because I believe the extra pacer in Prasidh is absolutely vital to rotate the pace attack and finger spin is massively overvalued. But considering Jadeja's complete lack of runs at 7 and his lack of wicket-taking threat,, I'm not sure it's the worst selection.  He was landing his variations and causing batters a lot of diffculties.

The real issue is the lack of batters who bowl spin like Maxwell, Livingstone, Head etc. which would have allowed India to drop at least one finger spinner if not both.

bowled very well today. if he keeps this up, he can be a threat on spinning pitches. on flatter tracks, he should focus on control. the bigger issue is his batting at no. 7. it is too low for a non-power-hitter. would rather see him move up the order, maybe to no. 5.

one option is the following order:

gill

rohit

kohli

KL

jaddu

pandu

SKY/kishan

The posters who had problems with Jadeja don't really understand that this world cup is in India, also on difficult pitches he will be useful with both bat and ball as he has more resilience than most of our batters.

On very flat pattas he might not be that useful with the bat(he will create pressure with the ball) but he can hold one end.

he is not suitable at 7. I long said/felt that he is better at 5. move kela to 4, and play jaddu at 5. then use a specialist hitter at 7 (if SKY had cracked ODI cricket, he would have fit well there)
