sundar's short ball handling was very good in 2021. it seems to have fallen off thereafter

It is more of a selection issue. There are certain line you have to avoid no matter how good you are. One is outside the off stump line. other one is straight at you over your head.  That will improve as they gain experience. Pant is a short guy. But he picks the right ball to pull almost every single time. He rarely gets out to pull shot. It is just a natural thing. Gill is taller. So he has an advantage to get on top of the bounce. Iyer's one advantage is his height. ALso that can be a weakness as he is likely to pick the wrong ball to pull. From what i have heard he has put in lot of hours working on this. He has made some progress. There are guys who never work on their weakness all their life.  Work ethic is important.

This guy is in trouble. He's so f horrible against the short ball and still can't hep himself playing that pull shot every single time.
He better get that fear out of him else it's gonna be over for him.

it's already over, but somehow he is living on borrowed time

He was lucky to be in the squad. Since he was away for so long time, people forgot that he was walking wicket against short pitch bowling.

This was not a short pitch ball he got out to. Good length ball. Since he sets himself deep in the crease good length ball seemed like a short ball and he went after it. That clearly suggests his mind is clearly messed up.  He should start taking some blows atleast like Pujara

Still did well in SA those years

Because he didn't play ego shots. I  think practicing against short balls late at the age seems to hurt you than help. In hindsight Iyer might as well have chosen to live with the weakness like others. Now he is trying to take on everything

Usually after few matches, a player weaknesses will be found out...

Iyer weakness has been found out...isnt it?

But a weakness as blatant as this --- very hard to survive in intl cricket unless he figure out a way to handle it....

Only player who had such a blatant short ball weakness was ganguly....

There are other players who had this issue -- Steve Waugh, Raina, Mooen Ali, Sir Jadeja ...

He need to talk to someone (may be steve or ganguly) and figure it out quickly

Ganguly had short ball weakness but he still remains the only indian or south asian player to score a century in Gabba and the first indian or south asian batsman to score a odi century in Australia..Ganguly never played stupid shots like Iyer does.. he knew his limitations so he would fend or duck and look ugly.. his match winning hundred in independence cup final in darkness chasing world record 315 in 47 overs against prime pakistani attack is the best odi century ever by an indian batsmen in my opinion even trumping sachins ton in sharjah or the aus tri series.. just think about the pressure.. independence cup in the country where india defeated pakistan in the last big war.. if that match happened today and if kohli or rohit scored it we know what would have happened..

Kapil's 175 is hard to top.
