Their vision for Harshit is beyond my comprehension...what he will achieve by sitting on the couch and watching other play.

Didn't play in NZ Test series, not playing in SA, not playing A series and will probably be thrown deep in the water against Australia.

I think they are planning Harshit's debut in Perth and are worried about any injury before that. 

 

But having actually match practice, especially in Australia, is important too. Playing the 2nd match and then resting would have been perfect.

Both Prasidh and Mukesh bowled very well in this series from the highlights I saw. Issue was batting as always.

So what exactly can a coach do when Rohit has his own preferred players and doesn't even listen to the coach

We'll see that eventually. Coz the current state is untenable. He can't even get the players he backs (e.g. Harshit Rana) even a single game despite doing his best. I'm sure he's realizing now that he doesn't have any power at all and can't influence decision making. Rohit has veto power over every selection and Gambhir can't do much unless the seniors are kicked out.

 

It's the rehash of Kumble-Kohli fiasco. The difference in this case is that Rohit is at the end of his career so there's hope that BCCI does the right thing and drops Rohit instead of Gambhir. But that's asking too much from an incompetent body.

With Prasidh in the team we're doomed. Prasidh Krishna couldn't even do anything on that mamba of a pitch in SA where the match didn't even last 2 days and teams struggled to cross 100. and where even Siraj was able to pick wkts for fun.

 

I would take Mukesh over him any day if Harshit can't be picked ahead of him due to seniority queue.

A games were just practice, not an absolute selection criteria. Neither prasidh nor Harshit will play first test. Bumrah, Siraj and Akashdeep will play with Reddy as seam alrounder.

I think they wanted to play Harshit in the 3rd test but stopped after the issue of " picking him day after IPL retention date was over " became viral.

Fear of top order batting failure can't be ruled out.
