333 in 45 over is still a extremely good winnable score. Imagine if that team is playing now with all batsmen friendly rules then how much they would be scoring 450-500

looks like they took full revenge of WC loss lol

They played angry the whole tour. IIRC, they won the test series 3-0 and annihilated us in the ODI series as well. There was an innings where Kapil took 9/83, and we still lost the test (Amdavaad). That's all one needed to know.

Brutal.

Where were these pitch curators then? No one thought to prepare dustbowls to blunt Marshall and Co.

Our spin stocks in the 80s were at an all time low, after the highs of 70s when the famed quartet operated.

Shastri, Arshad Ayyub, Maninder Singh....utter dross. Lost home test series to Eng and Pak as well in that decade, allowed the weakest post WW-2 Aussies team to walk home with a draw....we were terrible at home in the 80s. Better overseas in fact, our medium pace swing bowlers gave us a 2-0 series win in Eng.

Dustbowls were the rage in the 90s and then we had Kumble to rip apart visitors.

You're right. They were all defensive bowlers. As was Dilip Doshi.

The only true spinning pitch was Chennai and Gavaskar made 236 but our spinners were ineffective,

Bro dustbowls or not, we were going to get smashed by them

They had the deadly 4 pronged attack. Our batters stood no chance.

In 80s, we only had Kapil in bowling department worth mentioning.

In 70s, spin quartet was there especially Bedi, Chandra and Prasanna.

In 90s, Srinath and Kumble made us home bullies but equally awful overseas.

In 2000s, we had better attack in Zak, Kumble, Harbhajan and several other pacers who were good for short periods.

No wonder why we were had in 80s at home.

But overall the 80s were memorable for our WC win and for the 1985 dominance of the WCC tournament. We bullied everyone.

Do you think we held back for these lalloo balloo bilaterals and just focused all the energy in winning the cups?

Because we proved to be clear cut champions.

1983 and then 1985 win as well.

Even after the elation of 2011 when we won the main tournament, we slacked off alot in tests, losing 9 tests in a row away from home and a home series but still we won the 2013 chamoions trophy

At that time Bilaterals used to be quite serious . Infact West Indies sent new team in 1987 world cup with Marshall skipping it . While in 1983 team the team was full strength.
