What has Ben Stokes done in test matches outside England as an all-rounder?

Allrounders are force multipliers, taking batting and bowling stats separately will never show how good/bad they were/are.

Right now he is the only fast bowling allrounder, baring Pandya so not much to compare with. He has played some  magical innings. He was bowling and batting before getting injured but now he is not bowling as much plus Eng. has luxury of having players who can fit both the batter and bowlers role.

In Asia they have Root and outside Asia they have Curran

Yes, i agree that allrounders are a good example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts, but its patently absurd to say that Stokes is anywhere close to Jadeja as an allrounder. Its almost as absurd as comparing Kapil and Prabhakar as allrounders.

Stokes is miles and miles behind Jaddu as an allrounder.

Jaddu is a far better bowler than stokes ever was and as a batsman, far more reliable in his second half of his career. and in fielding its not even close.

jaddu is more consistent in batting and bowling. the thing with peak stokes is that he could conjure random moments with bat & ball out of nowhere.

to be clear, I do think jaddu is more than stokes

Another poor series for overrated player. Averages 24 with bat in the series. Didn't bowl a single delivery.

If this was from any other player he would have been criticized a lot, but you will see nothing but praises for him.

And he doesn't bowl at all. Root is more of an AR than him.

Better bowler, better batter, equally good fielder, and a better team man

Last 35 tests 1894 runs at bat avg of 31 and 41 wickets.

it's the Flintoff route. have a few great years, and then get overhyped to the skies.

If we can beat them 4-1 here, it will lessen his aura a bit even for his hardcore supporters

Nah, an Ashes loss of 4-0 or 5-0 will do that.

Also its a myth he performs with bat everywhere. Where?

Mainly in englans at home.

He did used to pick up crucial wickets again in england though.

In india he bowled ok in 2021 but still dint do much to help them win.

If Stokes was just one player format, he would not have gotten this much reputation.

But he can play all three formats very well. One thing  he has and  not many players have is clutch gene.

He has played some very clutch innings which any top order batsman will be proud off.

While England has stokes , we are stuck with a bits and pieces player who never has ability to raise his level in eight years except one bloody flukey inings.

Jadeja is ATG in tests but he is not in same class in other formats. You cannot isolate just test cricket version of Ben Stokes.

If both of healthy and at their best even in tests in India, Ben Stokes would be selected over Jadeja.

Still stick with this opinion?

I guess the claim will be that "he is not healthy because he is not yet fit to bowl"

Stokes was an excellent player till 2021. But post that, he has become a joke of a cricketer, skipping games as per his priorities and then returning back, playing as a specialist batsman and inspite of that, he is batting down at 6 and hardly scoring runs.

Jadeja is much better. Stokes was ahead in 2010s but as of now, Jaddu has surpassed him in Tests cricket.

Good for him but as long as he doesn't score runs, it won't make any difference. He had a pretty bad day on field as captain in the first session.

Eng think that they are good enough to afford a non-performing captain. Aus in Aus should show them how it would turn out

They'll catch Australia in transition phase again, just like in 2010
