French Open 2024

Have lost interest in tennis these days. Craze was at its peak in 2004-2019 years. Never will we see such an era in any sport where 3 of the GOATs played at the same time, so much epicness. Throw in Murray, Stan as well. 

 

Sinner, Alcaraz are good but rest of the tour meh, even good players like Med, Tsitsipas, Zverev are boring. 

 

So many unfortunate players, born in the wrong era. Roddick, Davydenko, Safin, Nalbandian, Ferrer, Berdych, Tsonga, Delpo, Cilic, Raonic, Soderling, Kevin Anderson, Monfils, Nishikori, Verdasco, heck even Gasquet would have won a slam in some other era.

I think Nole's loss in AO earlier this year has affected his motivation levels. His aura there is no less than Rafa's in RG or Fed in Wimbledon...to get punctured so brutally for the first time in his career, respect to Sinner.

Yeah Roddick won 2003 US Open. Many heartbreaking defeats in finals, none can top 2009 Wimbledon against Federer.

 

Safin had one US Open, one AO, both were epic runs. Destroyed Sampras in 2000 USO final, and one of the greatest matches of all time when he beat Federer in 2005 AO SF.

yeah, he is looking like a shell of himself. no. 25 seems very far away now

He's 37. What do you expect? He still has an outside chance this tournament. That aura itself keeps the young guys on their toes. He is like how Federer was a few years ago and Agassi in his last few years in the circuit.

That’s great! I have been to US Open Arthur Ashe stadium where I was on so top tier couldn’t spot the ball. Most times. You have a better view!

Quite beautiful, esp old. Classic city areas around the Latin Quarter. The tower is overrated and suburbs are dirtier than Mumbai

yeah, I think he will score 1 more title, and then retire... it will be the end of the greatest era of (men's) tennis

Arthur Ashe looks like it was designed to maximise profit from ticket sales. It is america in a nutshell. Bottom line is always the bottom line. The seating area looks ugly from the top, every nook and crany covered with seats. Do you get any fresh air at all in the stadium.

Historic cities in america means 19th century I get the feeling my ideal of paris is way too romantic and I'm bound to be disappointed once reality hits me. I can picture Paris being dirty. Its the equivalent of New York and boy was NY dirty. You can't ride the subway without smelling something nasty I guess I'm used to that smell traveling in India. Gives me the the rage when cnn and bbc talk about dirty streets when India does something extraordinary like nuclear testing or mangalyaan

I lost half my interest when John McEnroe started to fade away. Then lost most of it when Steffi Graf retired (1997?). After that, I kept up here and there, rooted for Leander Paes and a bit for Serena Williams, but the passion was gone.

For me the golden age of tennis was from 2004 - 2012. I loved both mens and womens tennis - maybe even more than cricket. 

 

Now hardly ever watch the game.

Historic cities in america means 19th century I get the feeling my ideal of paris is way too romantic and I'm bound to be disappointed once reality hits me. I can picture Paris being dirty. Paris has some seedy parts (as do all big cities), but for the most part, it is clean, elegant and safe... now, on the other hand, parisians are notoriously rude, even if one speaks quite fluent French (as yours truly does)
