T20 is not his game but if his only competition is Sanju Samson then i will pick him every time/

He is also the best wicketkeeper on show so far in this world cup from any country. It's amazing that the one person being singled out is the star performer from the team so far !

the top scorer for india in this World T20, scored 42 when next best score was 20 at the highest strike rate in the team, took 3 good catches and was part of 2 correct DRS decisions. Yet fans are whining about him

Meanwhile Kohli is playing his 6th T20 world cup and Rohit his 8th and have won nothing.

Fans like OP deserve another 17 years of no cup.

Must be cognitive biases for sure. I surely can't understand his worth in T20. As I watched the highlights I couldn't help but as if this serious team.

Pant should have been out 5 times. Taking insane chances and looking ugly at most times. In fact, for all risks he just scored 42 off 31. Against better team he could get exposed.

Taking insane chances is what helped him score 42 runs when cowards got out. Just like we wouldnt have won the Aus series without him taking chance. He scored 42 when the next best score was 20, and his strike rate was the highest in the team. He is indias top scorer in this series. He took 3 excellent crucial catches and was involved in 2 correct DRS decisions last match. And this is the player you choose to attack?

But but but he could have got out. Risk free cowards win nothing, the reason pant gets away so many times is becuas he doesnt half ass it, so most of his shots carry farther from the fielders.

Mentality like yours is why our coward team has not won anything in seventeen years. Please go on worshipping technically correct safe stat padders who win nothing, so that we can wait 17 more years. Its the exact mentality why we carry trundlers instead of fast bowlers, Indians are phattu who want the safe pretty approach instead of being aggressive and ugly. Anyone trying anything different will be lynched and thrown out while safe pretty looking cowards will be praised for their useless averages.

He has played 3 innings here. He was aggressive in all 3.  50, 36, 42   Just dismissed once.  Warm up. Ireland match, Pakistan match. he found a way albeit with a bit of luck.

Luck is needed to survive let alone put a score on the board on this surface.

yes. Others tried. But hardly made connection. This guy made lot more connection than others. Only David Miller and Rishabh Pant have got the measure of this wicket

This post should be pinned and posted like a disclaimer

Every time a kohli roro or sky fan utters words our of their mouths, they need to read this entire disclaimer before spouting their verbal diarrhoea.

None of them are dollies. It fell away from the fielder . Fielders barely had finger to it. But if he targets areas like Suresh Raina does he will be more effective in this format.

Most Indian cricket fans are even more conservative than our experts/ex-players. And swashbuckling, unorthodox, fearless youngsters are easy targets.

I think we as a country deserve this long ICC drought. Only risk takers deserve to taste silverware.

Head and pant are the same mould. If pant played the WC there is a good chance aus would have passed urine like they did in bg series twice and also in India had they played us there.

The sight of pant scares Aussies cause he is better than Aussies at being an Aussie type player.

Pant is goat.

I am not sure if he has reached his peak form again nor am I sure if he will ever be at that level again but if he is even at 80% or his peak then he will be the best player in the world easy.

Wtc final also pant nor Bumrah played. Bumrah was playing injured in 2021 wtc final. Shouldnt have been picked. I wouldn't judge him on that one.

You need daredevils to win tourneys. Pant, head, Cummins who is very intelligent in the use of slow balls and effective field placements and guys like prime smith are the type you need to win tournaments. Clutch players.

I added pant and yes he dint do well in 2019 but that was cause our top 3 failed to chase an easy target. But at home in 2023 he would have smoked everyone had he not been injured.

Which Indian batsman actually looks good while playing T20Is ?

SKY may be the only one who seems to have a temperament and shot range of proper modern T20 batter and even he has failed in all big games.

Rishabh has been totally mishandled in T20Is so far but his proven abilities at international level in the other 2 formats and stellar IPL record warrants him a fixed place in the playing XI for T20s.

if Pant looks awful, what does it say about rest of the batting? :giggle:

The problem with Pant is that he tries to be extra aggressive and plays very weird shots when he doesn't need to. He is missing that balance between being aggressive and reckless. IMO we should push him to open and ask him to go for his shots. Or if we have Jaiswal & Abhishek open in the longer run then Pant can slot in at 4 but needs to find that balance.

Either way players like  Pant have to be backed for their fearless attitude. That's the reason want Abhishek to be in the team as well along with Jaiswal & Rinku. I would rather the team plays like England and occasionally bombs. But that's how you win tourneys. You can't play it safe all the time as you will end up with a limited ceiling.

Pant has all the range and power needed in T20. Players like that are very rare. Needs a fixed role and all the backing.

Yes if they aren't playing Jaiswal, might as well open with Pant

It's a feature not a bug. His brain calculates risk/reward balance differently to the norm. He wants to go for the scoring option whatever the conditions and most of the time it may look ugly but it comes off. Had it not been the case, he wouldn't have the sustained success that he has had in many different conditions.

That is the type of player we desperately need - fearless and creative. The way he took to Rauf in the last game was so unexpectedly brilliant that it flattens the opposition too and in the end the innings proved decisive. That is him in a nutshell and whatever his style he more than earns his place both as a keeper and a batter in the side.

No. THIS Pant is what we get in Tests,Fearless,No regard for personal glory, risk taker, game changer, intimidator and a Match-Winner. He can win you games from impossible situations. THIS Pant is feared by everyone.

Agreed and I would have Pant over likes of KL Rahul any day of the week, and across any format
