The swinging ball is bowled by quite a few spinners with the new ball - Mujeeb, Akeal Hosein , Imad Wasim etc.

Indians are the least innovative and most regressive people. They lack creativity and put down anyone who tries to do things differently. Our rationale for everything is "yahaan pe aise hi chalta hai". That's why we go with conservative selections, pander to "seniors", and anything innovative or anyone young who doesn't conform to norms is frowned upon. And we've gotten worse over time.

Who was the guy who gave Tendulkar shoulder before wkt? Tendulkar copped quite a few poor decisions in Aus. That was the Aussie way of targeting their opponent's premier batsman at the time.

Innovation exists in Indian Cricket, the place you will see it are at Tennis ball tournaments. But it dies as players move for the more formal setup with academies and clubs at an early age, especially the famous ones with ties to district and state level age group cricket. Coaches become 'sir' and everything is about toeing the line. 

 

You see someone like Varun Chakravarthy who was out of Cricket for a while, develop his variations with a tennis ball and transfer them to cricket ball. 

 

Nowadays with more local league cricket flourishing hopefully we see more tennis ball cricketers make the jump.

Daryl Harper. To be fair, our team was at its worst that tour. A team can't bank on one star player. Aussies played as a team and there were no weak links in that team. Our team had only weak links

All the more reason for them not to target SRT in that 99 series. He was the only batsman they were competing against and still targeting him.
