Number Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 In the list of all major inventions and innovations in the game I don't see anything that Indians have come up with. Doosra, Reverse Swing, Switch Hit, Over the rope catching, stuff like Bazball, Googly, Mental disintegration by Sledging, Slinger actions, Scoop shots, 360 degree shot range etc all came from countries other than India. I feel this is concerning because as a nation whose cricket playing population is probably 2-3 times of all other nations put together we should have invented a few new tricks or techniques. Credit to Ashwin he is fighting for normalisation of Mankad run out. Where do you think the problem is ? Do Indian coaches at grassroot level discourage innovation ? Do selectors give too much importance to being technically correct and not effective ? Or players lack the drive to innovate ? express bowling, maniac, Tillu and 1 other 2 2
LordPrabhzy Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 so muuch for being technically correct.. King Kolhi still chases balls on 7th 8th stump every 2nd game Number and Stan AF 2

As friggin Sri Lankans mog us when it comes to production of mystery spin, slinger Pacers, even invented dil scoop... Aggressive batters in PP. Have to blame safety first mindset and grassroot level coaching. Edited June 18, 2024 by Lone Wolf Number and Frustrated 2

cpct Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 Indian cricket team is non innovative because we worship textbook style or technically perfect cricketers like Sachin Kohli or Dravid. Rather than youth should try to make their role model like ABD or Buttler etc. Number 1
cpct Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 2nd reason is that our coaches in state level or under 19 level try to make player technically perfect like Kohli , kl Rahul and never try to motivate them to play 360 degree like ABD Number and rollingstoned 2

neel roy Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 Our Innovations include creating a spinning track in a day night test match and fooling England to pick 4 pacers, asking Kedar Jadhav to mimic Malingas action while bowling spin, asking Wriddhiman Saha to be our wicket keeper in Adelaide to shock the Australians after Pant scored a century in the warm up match, playing 2 spinners in WTC final in England when the forecast is for cloud and rain etc etc.. these are all innovations of some degree.. putrevus, Number, Laaloo and 2 others 5

tapandrun Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 Yes for most of the cricketers coming from street cricket they lack cunning and innovations. Few innovations that can be pointed-out are -Sachin's paddle sweep, Sehwag's upper-cut, Ashwin's carom ball and Dhoni's back of the hand flips and keeping style to spinners. Rest is all conventional, v.few plays sweep shot to which is these days most productive shot, nearly no one play reverse sweep that's the reason Ind top order struggles to score quickly against good spinners and faster spinners where they can not use their feet. Also there is no urgency in Ind cricketers to add those new skills to their game- Raina, Yuvi, Gangully never resolved short-ball issue. S.Iyer is also on same track. They want to play safe, do not want to explore options. rollingstoned 1
coffee_rules Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 We have undercutter faster deliveries But jokes apart: Does Thala helicopter, 360 from Sky, Bhuvi’s knuckles, Ashwin’s carrom variations cour? Yesteryears’ Chandra with a polio inflicted hand was supposed to be unplayable Number 1

Gollum Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 Ashwin did develop his carrom ball at a young age, just that Mendis debuted before him. It was something called soduku ball that Ashwin used in tennis ball tournaments in Chennai. Also there was some kind of swinging ball that he first used in 2018 Eng, apart from him I have only seen Theekshana bowl that ball. rollingstoned 1
Real McCoy Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 There aren't many team innovations apart from individual ones. Srikkanth started with the dashing opener approach. He started before Sehwag, Jayasuriya, Tendulkar, Anwar. Right now Bumrah with the jogging runup and bowling real quick and Shami with his lazy run up. No wonder our bowling has never been better. Dhoni's helicopter shot and scoring at run a ball even when not playing well without much fuss, ability of Yuvraj and Raina to find form when we needed them the most. That 2011 WC middle order was the best. The reason innovations stop coming is becuase of coach and captain. Even with bewda as coach and Rahane as captain, we had Pant, Siraj, Sundar, Nataraj, Thakur shining in Brisbane 2021. We don't need these special captains/coaches in Dravid, Sharma, Kohli. Star players need people pleasers as players. Normal captains allow everyone to shine and express themselves.

maggot_brain Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 The carrom ball was first used by Jack Iverson, an Australian. One thing definitely invented by an Indian is the leg glance which is the work of Ranjitsinhji.
