It seems reminiscent of 2019 WC

In 2019, for some odd reason we had this great strategy of going in 3 batters and then allrounders plus Dhoni who lost his mojo. The team was forced to play defensive and save wickets upfront to avoid collapse. Ultimately this happened in semi finals. That team seemed good enough for semi finals. 

 

This team looks good for Semi finals. Rohit, Kohli and that's it. One or two of the other three have to click. And Hardik onwards its hitting with limitations. Pant is not top order batter. He is more gymnastics than results. I love Pant but he just doesn't seem to provide risk to return. Surya is hit or miss. Dube, not much to say.  Lack of atleast one top class batter is going to hurt the team. Perhaps Jaiswal at the top, not sure. 

 

Its a pity that the golden generation of Indian bowling has been lost due to poor selection.

Ind would start playing top teams from the Aus-Ind game onwards ... Before this game, they played against AFG, BD, CA, IRE, PAK, & USA.

It's the same old story... going in with the hopes that our "seniors" will fire in knockouts. Unfortunately it hasn't happened for more than a decade and unlikely to happen now.

It's not the same old story..most world cups we have Kohli dhawan and Rohit striking big centuries and middle order doing nothing .winning everything in a canter and then the top order misfires in knockout...in this tournament..except today's match..mostly our top order didn't do much and Rohit and Kohli were or are duds..we just need to drop dube for jaiswal and we are good.

The bigger issue is one of our bat/bowl dept completely flops in the finals or just before that. How can you stop that?

 

Bowling in 2015 WC, 2016 WT20, CT 2017, then batting in 2019 WC, 2022 WT20, WC last year!

India has not done much wrong since 2014. They just were not lucky plus bowling and batting have not clicked at the same time.

 

As failures mounted fear of failure has gone thru the roof. Hope that will change this time.

2023 was as flawless except the final which was messed by pitch tampering. 

 

But considering the talent available, it always amazes me how the selections are done where you always feel we are one or two selections short of the right combination. 

 

I love the selflessness of our captain. It is one very un Indian quality in sports. But I think he went overboard both in 2023 and here. His selection doesn't allow him to go gung ho. In fact, if he plays through 20 overs, India's chances of getting 220 + goes up big time. While there is literally no one to follow that can match his hitting. 

 

Pant is gymnastics. He would be way more effective if he just holds his shape. 

Sky is good but he can be contained with short ball.

Hardik can also be contained with short ball by good balling unit.

Dube doesn't look ready.

Jadeja is bowler who can bat. 

Axar the same. 

 

If Kohli has to be the in the the team, its better to ask him to play through with target SR of 120.

Was Rohit not the captain in last t20 world cup. So he has just become selfless.

 

Guy like Rohit has underachieved in t20 world cup given his talent. But Indian bowlers have never helped batsmen in a knock out match in last ten years.

Haha.. Phir ***rona.We won from Aus 114-2 in 11. Head bossing the game. Axar's last 2 clutch overs, Bumrah's bowling, Axar's catch, Arshdeep's wickets. I have reasons to believe that Ind will go all the way this year.

Plus biggest reason for the drought is Indian bowlers  mainly fast bowlers simply don't know how to defend below par scores

 

They are allowed to defend small scores some times in important matches. Even yesterday, Head was threatening to take the game away from them chasing that huge total. Aussie bowlers pummled England defending 205.

 

They simply lose their marbles under pressure. We would have had test series wins England, SA also by now if they bowled well under pressure.

In knockout games, If it's a good batting pitch, India have to chase. Indian bowlers tend to panic when defending a total and put under pressure especially if it's a knockout scenario.

 

If pitch helps spinners, need to bat first, maximise the power play and first 10 overs as the pitch will slow down in the final 6-7 overs. This is where the top order becomes crucial. At least look to get 160 if not more. With 3 spinners, it won't be easy for other team to chase.
