Will Gambhir, Agarkar and their teams be able to identify and give chances to the next lot of Indian strike bowlers ?

Which new pacers will Agarkar and Gambhir pick for tests against Bangladesh  ?

 

My choices are Akashdeep and Harshit.

 

Akashdeep is fully ready.

 

Harshit needs a bit of work. But he showcased his high ceiling with a 4 wicket haul .. 3 top order wickets.

Khaleel has improved as a red ball bowler. Sustaining pace better. Getting the ball to fly through.

 

Needs to improve his accuracy. And should always bowl with effort.

 

He has this habit of taking it easy and bowling lollipops after a good spell or a good match.

Akash & Harshit are a "must"..no two thoughts about it.

Both are handy with bat, and bowls at a good accuracy. 

 

Khaleel, Mukesh, Avesh are too one dimensional and are sure to drop a catches or two and will contribute zilch with bat. 

 

Yash & Arshdeep are somewhere in between.

Bumrah should be rested for Aus tour. We don't want any unnecessary injuries playing this useless series.

Not playing for a long time means lack of match practice and hence higher chance of injury when he actually plays. 

 

Best way to stay match fit is to play games regularly without bowling too many overs.

 

Tests in India is ideal for this purpose as pacers won't have to bowl more than 12 overs a day.

 

Bumrah should play this test series.

Akashdeep is not back to full pace after dengue. Probably same will happen with Siraj.  And Dayal is quite gentle more than half the time.

 

This may result in spinning tracks.

 

If I were the Coach, I would feel very uncomfortable with our pace attack in it's current state of fitness.

Akashdeep is a good pick. Very accurate pacer who is sharp, gets consistent seam movement and zip off the deck. Gets bounce too. Has low FC average. 

 

Dayal seems like a Category 2 pacer. Infact, with a FC average of around 29, is he even that ?  Medium pace and high FC average is a bad combo for a pacer.  

 

High FC average means he has issues with consistency. Do we want an inconsistent medium pacer !

 

His pluses are height and bounce. Moves the ball from time to time. 

 

But seems like a left arm quota pick to me. Left arm pacers were never important in tests. The great WI and Aus teams never had any. They are a must only in T20s.

Starc kind of left armers are one of the extremes of left arm bowling

One cannot expect,such bowlers in every generation

But someone like Boult's calibur and pace can be expected atleast in a decade or 15 years

We haven't seen one since Zaheer who was our best left armer,Boult is better than him can still operate in 135+ consistently

Dayal even though in t20s was bowling 140+ in between with consistent line

But seems to have dropped pace than that

One thing I appreciate about Boobie ,he did work on his pace after 2015 WC and was quite terrific for a brief period of 2015-16

He could reach 144+ at times and send down quite a many deliveries at 140+ when needed

Dayal in fact is more physically gifted,only thing I want they just can up the ante when nothing goes for them

Not that 140+ all the time without any purpose

Dayal was quite sharp in 2021-22. I think in one of the Vijay Hazare he impressed everyone with his consistent pace (was bowling 135-140) and nagging accuracy. There was some commentator (I think Razdan) who compared his performance with Zaheer's. Even Nehra in GT was appreciative of him.

 

It's his injury in last 2022 and then his flop show in IPL 2023 was the low point. He was barely hitting 125-130 in IPL and accuracy was all over the place, Rinku added spice to the burn.

 

If he has indeed recovered his mojo (atleast that's what looks like in Duleep), Dayal can be a decentish stop gap solution. Though he seems more of a white ball bowler than a red ball one.

I don't think Dayal will be a front runner.

If Bumrah is fit, then most probably Bumrah, Siraj & Akash will be the 3 man pace attack.

 

If we don't give sporty pitches, it will be a direct shootout between our batters and Bangla batters in terms of ability to play spin, which will make me nervous frankly.

High ceiling pacers, Mayank and Harshit, have been selected for the T20I series vs Bangladesh.

 

They have indeed been able to identify and give chances to the next lot of potential strike bowlers. 

 

Hope it is not a flash in the pan selection.

are the best 4 T20 pacers we have. Bumrah rightly rested and all the other three have been selected.

Dayal .. not sure at all

 

The first 3 have very strong chances of becoming strike bowlers at international level.  

 

All 3 accurate, quick high potential pacers have been picked. They are clearly potential Category 1 pacers, especially Mayank and Harshit.

 

But not sold on Dayal yet. 

 

Good to see Mukesh, Avesh, Unadkat excluded. They are typical Category 2 pacers. Hope they don't make a comeback.

I believe Akashdeep can be picked for odi as well, as he has great line and lenghth also he can bat well as well. His only Achilles hill is his fielding which is worst than chahal.
