I really liked his game. His footwork was on point in the first set. Then some muddled shot selection left him hight and dry. Opponent upped his offensive game he wilted.

Most sports that the Chinese medal in - hardly gets followed in China. I doubt anyone in China follow speed climbing or diving as a sport

 

Yup. It's all about "we got 130 medals at Olympics and were  ranked 1 (or 2 or 5)" Everyone sits up and takes notice. Nobody cares what those events are or how you got the medals. But the fact you won medals at the global stage means you have the wherewithal and resources to be successful as a nation.

 

There's a reason why every nation who wants to be taken seriously invests in sports, and performance in sports is a direct indicator of the economy and how well the country is doing.

Don't get the impression that I have any love for these federation guys, boxing, archery, wrestling. In a country like China, half those guys would be made to disappear for treason. The draws our boxers got, 100% blame on federation assclowns. 

Yes, you can do both.IMO these federations guys yield so much power. 

 

That is why private corporate  funding is  also needed to remove them from having supreme authority. Athletes don't have to beg for money from these predators.

If we set our expectations realistic we don't have to. We only analyze our own players without understanding  the strengths and preparation  of opponents and set high expectations. In right conditions we couldn't even beat Srilanka in ODIs.

Even when the USSR was in its economic doldrums they still used to invest heavily in sport. It helps build pride in the nation despite everything going on. Beating other countries that are richer than you - nothing like it. 

 

US and Aus have some of the biggest obesity issues in the world - all forgotten during the Olympics

They might be best badminton players for India standard.. but can they realistically compete against Chinese, Malaysians, Indonesians and Koreans? You can beat random players from across the worlds in group stage and then lose to the above countries in QF/SF. Doesnt mean you are a top level talent

That is riduclous. Indian cricket team not winning knock outs of due to some bad luck also not due to their ability.

 

They have proven all over the world they they can beat any team which is not the case for other sports.

Genetic do play a part and certain races are better at certain sports. There's a reason 100m and 200m races are all contested by Blacks from different countries. That being said we can be smart and just like China focus on sports where we can win. Nothing is stopping us from winning medals in archery, shooting, badminton, wrestling, fencing, table tennis, boxing, synchronized diving, some of the gymnastics events etc.

 

There're enough sports where we can win. If China can and if countries like Korea can rack up so many golds, no reason why we can't.

Indian cricket team not winning is like China not winning table tennis. With the amount of interest, talent, and money in it, India should always be winning. India not being the most dominant country in cricket is just unjustifiable.

Who said that , it is a game upsets happen.China has more talent than any other country in Table tennis.

 

Indian cricket does not have more talent than any other country.

 

India had no business of winning 1983 world cup against WI  But they did  on that day they were better.
