The difference was likely more than 100 grams.
Gollum Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Not blaming Vinesh but culturally we Indians have a habit of pushing things too close to deadline. Goras, East Asians I think are more systematic than us and don't take it deep like Thala, more organized in time management, or in this case weight management.

I think as @vvvslaxman said one story is she was nearly 2-3 kgs overweight after her previous bout and she had to quickly lose 2-3 kgs. That sounds more believable to me than losing or gaining 100 grams which sounds ridiculous.

You don’t need to be an athlete to know gaining weight is easier than losing. Weight cutting is a very usual process. These people go through a lot to cut their weights hours before weigh-ins. They are all marginally higher weighing folks than their categories. maniac 1

If this was her first time going to this weight category then it would have been hard for herself and her trainers to fully understand how the body reacts and how easily and how fast that weight can be cut-down to thresholds, they would have done everything possible to get it down wight. May be her body dint respond. Also need to understand if the team has expience with her playing in 50 kg category, if they know how much she gains after the measurements and how much see can cut-down and how quickly. Or is she playing too much under her natural weight category that he body simply goes to natural weight in just some time, its mostly water retaintion and food intake they can work on rest is natural. Do nt belive in any conspiracy, it just hard luck. Similar case for 100m sprint thompson missed gold by .005 seconds just happens. She would be ranked last because of technicality, apart form this match all games were fair she was weighted under thresholds and this time she missed. Well, this is not hard luck, this is poor planning and preparation. Thompson case is totally different, that is a case of hard luck.

They brought it down to 100 gram. That is a lot of weight loss you have to do in a day or two. Really? That is too big a number to risk.
Gollum Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Proposed Immediate Rule Changes for UWW:1.) 1kg second Day Weight Allowance. 2.) Weigh-ins pushed from 8:30am to 10:30am. 3.) Forfeit will occur in future finals if opposing finalist misses weight. 4.) After a semifinal victory, both finalists’ medals are secured even if…— Jordan Burroughs (@alliseeisgold) August 7, 2024
maniac Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 (edited) The guy who deserves most sympathy is the boxer followed by the hockey team who had decisions go against them. rest all Lakshya etc etc good try but you lost. Your responsibility. in this case complacency or failure by coaching staff, team management. Cant blame the athlete. Maybe 2-3 % but that too if you have to nitpick. Gollum Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Jordan Burroughs is no random guy. He is a modern era legend of freestyle wrestling, gold medalist in London, most world championship gold record or something like that.

If it was, she would have known about it and gone bald and/or tried to draw some more blood out and just given up on the fight to at least salvage a silver. Losing 2-3 kgs in a few hours is not easy. I don't think they ever did a practice of how they were going to get her ready for the second day. I think it was all left to some guess-timates!
vvvslaxman Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 I have a question. What if She had walked away from the final before weighing in saying "personal reasons". What then? Would still lose silver?
Gollum Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 (edited) They tried everything possible. Vinesh was crying in pain as the body broke down. She was in the sauna early this morning in a last ditch effort. But contingent officials told me not to sweat came out. This is cruel. She is not in hospital @WIONews — Digvijay Singh Deo (@DiggySinghDeo) August 7, 2024 Digvijay also said that when she was crying, tears weren't coming out due to dehydration. Having said that this lady has a political lobby so there will be more theories so we might never get the full picture.

Yes in ways poor planning and preparation not sure what happened so do not want to blame any1, IMO she might be playing v.low under her natural weight and he team has less experience with how her wight fluctuates and how quickly and how much they can cut it down. You need to know exactly how body reacts, how much it gains and how much it loses and how much can be cut down, only comes with experience and having done it multiple times.

Probably 25-30 grams difference.
