Have you watched him bat ? He is not a cow corner slasher like Shami, has pretty decent technique, balance and shot range like a proper batter.

Akashdeep is a late bloomer with the bat.

Similar to Shardul, who too was a pure pacer earlier and later improved his batting.

Akash scored 30 odd runs vs England Lions as well, courtesy of which he played vs England replacing his state mate.

He gave his birth date to BCCI and his birth certificate which matched. However the passport was not matching. He claimed also that passport agent made a mistake in his passport. I can understand the frustration with this guy, but BCCI gotta resolve this situation somehow and focus on how well he has been batting throughout the years. He helped get Maharashtra to a Ranji Final 10 years back along with Kedar Jadhav.

I though he will play for India when he started but after that issue..fell out of favor and is 31 now..

Akshay Wadkar is another one who has as good numbers as Bawne. He is included in Duleep Trophy.

Haven't seen how good is he, but both Bawne & Wadkar are in 30's.

 

Selectors also picked up a 32 year old Pratham Singh, with mediocre numbers in FC. Are there no more 23-24 year old talented batters left in the domestic circuit ?
