That is bit harsh to say that Kane plays for stats.But you are correct, he has rarely scored tough runs in his career.

He knows he can't get close to Sachins record in tests and Root is way ahead of him so that's not happening either. In ODI he has the best record. So he is happy with that. I hope he gets to 12k runs and 50+ avg in tests if he wants to be counted among greats

Can Kana mama have 1-2 memorable series (statistically he is doing great)? The 3 test series against India this October will be massive for him....perhaps his last chance to prove that he isn't overrated.

Mediocre hype jobs Stokes and McCullum forced Root to change his style and become a blind slogger. Wasted 2 years of his peak. 

 

He should be sitting on 13k runs now at 52 average, at least.

Smith will always be best test batsman among them.His high can never be matched.

 

Sanga has highest avg among previous generation , , He is not even top three .

 

These four  have already played enough matches.

I think this is what every other poster fails to take into consideration.

 

England are always known to put tests ahead and quite a few of their players are known to make late retirements. Gooch retired at 42 btw.

Exactly my thoughts. Unreal. The guy has 34 centuries, missed out on atleast 5-7 because of ugly hoicks.

Realistically, 10k test runs and average of 47. 

 

Needs 1200 more runs, which means at least 15 tests and him being in good form. No guarantee he won't pull out of more tests again. 

 

We play around 20 tests till August 2026, 24 till November 2026 by which time Kohli will be 38!!!!!

 

Him missing all 5 tests against Eng at home when he had just regained form in the RSA tests will be a big miss when he looks back. He should have used the momentum, confidence from RSA series and plundered Eng, overshadowed Root.

Yes, and knowing Root's priorities/limitations, ECB approach, he won't play ODIs, T20Is again. So can easily extend his test career.

Eng needed normal Root in the first 3 tests of the series earlier this year. Could have given us a big scare had Root not played those stupid hoicks especially of Bumrah and Ashwin.

 

Once normal Root returned, we found it so tough to dismiss him in final 2 tests.

Didn't make a difference to the result in either of those 2 Tests though.

Nearly did in Ranchi.  I fail to see a better 4th inns Run chase by India on a Turner in years.

That Mirpur one was the other.

 

This one had Galle 2015 written all over it until Jurel rescued again in 2nd inns

Conditions were fairly good for batting that series. If only our dud trimurti of Harane, Ling Lolli and Gujara did better we would have thumped them handsomely.

Root was troubled by South African pacers specially Rabada in 2022 series.
