Anil Kumble - record as Indian Coach

Recommended Posts

Posted

Test Matches: 12 wins, 4 draws, 1 defeat

ODI Matches: 8 wins, 5 defeats

T20 Matches: 2 wins, 2 defeats, 1 NR

India lost 2 series, 1 T20 series Vs WI and 2017 CT, all rest of the series won

In hindsight, should Kumble have been backed more over Kohli. As it transpired India did not win any ICC tournaments under Kohli & Shastri. However notable achievements 2 test series wins in Australia.

We did lose CT final under him. We had a good side and were beaten by bunch of novices.

At that time, news of a rift between captain and coach had been "leaked". The team was distracted and not in the best frame of mind for a final.

Kumble was rightly sacked, coach is there to help players not command them like slaves.Plus  he could not get along with captain.

Kohli proved the decision by becoming the most successful test captain.

How did he command players like slaves? Can you give an example?

You have to read articles of that time.Players felt like he was too much of school master and authoritarian attitude.

I don't remember. Ultimately it was the right call.Kohli if he felt more comfortable with Shastri then Shastri had to be the coach

Kohli wasn't the selector. Captains didn't choose previous coaches either. Neither Rohit only backed Dravid or Gambhir. Only this time was an exception

He was not selector but any captain will have his opinion. If Kohli did not like him he has every right to tell them he does not like him.

but that should not be the ultimate factor. It's still just one man's opinion.

It should be more than enough to dissuade anyone in appointing Kumble as coach. If Coach and captain don't get along one has to go.Most times it is the coach and rightfully so.

Coach is there to help not take limelight or become dictator.

Kumble did admirably as captain during the Aus series, adminstrator in karnataka & not badly as a coach. Its difficult to handle a hottie like Kohli and everyone knew that winning the toss & fielding in champions trophy was the wrong call.

Both have moved on and they dont talk about it.

There is a reason we never won a single trophy under Kohli, when we have both under Dhoni before him and then under Rohit after him. BCCI should have sided with Kumble over Kohli.

We all know who the dictator was.

We all know who the dictator was.

That is utter nonsense, he captained 4 ICC tournament and went to finals in two and semi final in one.

Kohli as captain did just fine in all formats. If guy like Bumrah kept laying giant eggs , noone can help.

Not only Kohli had to captain, he also had to be best batsman otherwise India was not winning anything.

If he failed with bat , India was losing the match, he was saddled with bozos.

Dhoni lost more ICC tournaments than Kohli.

Kohli proved he is best test captain by a mile.He would done just that also in other formats.I did not see anything wrong in his captaincy.
