The Gap between India and Australia continues to get narrow. Likely that by the end of BGT Series, Australia would be at top of the table going into the Finals.

Why does that matter? Top 2 play and we are clear of the 3rd by long way for now

I think South Africa has a bunch of easy games - against BD and then against Pak at home. I used a WTC simulator and picked the likely winners of all matches to come, and it looked like SA might jump to the top 2 soon.

India still on top with a very small margin.

Its getting more competitive as the WTC Cycle is approaching its final stage, All Top 5 Teams  have good chance to qualify for the Finals. Problem for India is that they have a tough Final series in Australia where they will have to win 2-3 Tests to maintain their win %.

Very likely that India will miss out.

It will be Aus vs South Africa in the final.

SA have 1 Test against BD and then 5 home tests vs Pak and SL. They'll likely win all of them and go to the top of the table.

Assuming optimistically that India lose the BGT 1-2 (assuming Draw at Sydney and Adelaide), India still finish third.

If India has to finish second, they need to win the third Test against NZ and win the BGT 2-1 or 3-2 or better.

If not Aus will qualify along with SA

4 possible scenarios for WTC Final exist:                                                        1) Aus vs SA  2) Aus vs NZ  3) Aus vs SL   4) SA vs SL (unlikely though)

At this stage no sensible ind fan would want Ind to reach WTC final.

Coz 36 AO type humiliation awaits.        Most ind fans had simply wanted Ind to somehow win or escape with a draw in this home series vs NZ.  That didn't happen.       Now, except few youtubers, no Ind fan would give a crap about WTC Final.

SA have 4 Tests at home against SL and Pakistan, two each against both and not 5.. Considering if all their pace bowlers are fit they will have Nortje, Rabada, Lungi, Jansen, Coeetzee, Burger so many fast bowlers to choose from in their home conditions..more than capable of winning atleast 3 Tests out of 4, even 4 out of 4.

Their biggest challenge was the series against BD in Asian conditions where they have won the first Test if they win the second test too then they will be massive favorites for the WTC Finals.

SA plays lesser number of matches. Their win percentage can fluctuate with one win.

If they win 5 of their remaining matches, their win % will be 69.

If they win only 3, it will be 52 and they stand no chance.

On the other, India and Australia have to fight hard in BGT. The winner will most likely knock out the loser. Big teams not be lot more consistent because of long series.

Wtc is still a gimmick which was still a well intentioned attempt to give some context to test cricket imo. After 3 editions though they should fix things like this by ensuring all teams play the same no. Of games at least and of more or less the same difficulty and the final venue.

If you gave me a test series win at home against Nzl in current series as against a potential wtc final win I would still take it.

Just 8 % separating the Top 4 Teams . If SA continue their good form at home , then the final will be between SA and India/Australia depending upon the result of the BGT Series.
