Australia - gives an youngster license to charge down the pitch first ball to hit bumrah,  while opening the batting, with couple of overs to play for close.of day.

 

India - want our biggest agressive match winner to play like pujara and play for draw otherwise he is abused and targeted. 

 

There is a reason one country has constantly been on top and the other is full of cowardly chokers who cannot dominate consistently. It takes guts to be champions, all the tuk tuk merchant like dravid never won a single series in Australia in their lifetime.

This is no different that the same defensive mentality which asks fast bowlers to bowl slow and line and length after going for runs for couple of matches and ruining them.

 

The same people criticizing him were also abusing him in the Gabba match last series, asking him to play for draw, people can check the commentary of that match. Now they are glad they proved him "wrong", how dare he!

 

We are a cowardly phattu nation who are full of scaredy cats who want everyone else to be exactly like them. The play for draw mentality of the 90s is completely back now.

 

There is a reason we never ever succeed and stay in top for long consistently like australia because we are too scared. 

 

We won last series there because our youth under rahane played to win, if we had the same phattu draw mentality we would have been thrashed last Australia series too. The draws we had, we had batsmen like pant attacking the bowlers and putting them off before playing for a draw, we never played for a draw from ball 1. Yet we never learn our lesson.

 

We are happy to be a cowardly nation in the hope of escaping with draws and will always attack and destroy those who ever want to change this mentality and take risks.

 

We are a nation full of people who want a safe, middle class income and retire with their sons and daughters being doctors and engineers. Bask in mediocrity without risks. And that mentality will never change, it's just passed from generation to generation.

 

You're under the assumption that Pant can't play that kind of patient game.

 

If you look at his defense he looks like batsman who is perfectly capable of doing that.

Roles in a team have to be clear. They are muddled in the Indian team where a wicketkeeper is coming in at the loss of 3 wickets every time and is expected to seamlessly switch between  Pujara and .beast mode and shoulder the main batting responsibility in a team full of batters on paper because no one else is putting their hands up.

Does Australia ask Travis Head to take responsibility for playing a grinding innings when they are in trouble ?

 No - because his role is clear and he plays as an attacking batsman. The other batsmen have to take the responsibility of doing the grind but when Travis Head comes in he is expected to attack and put the pressure back on the bowlers whatever the situation. That is what Pant's role should be.

In addition his main role is a wicketkeeper so he he should be batting at 6 or 7 at best.

The muddled treatement of a talented young player is going to ensure he underachieves and gets demotivated soon.

Travis Head is technically weak batsman and can't bat like that.

You may think that but he is a high impact, high value part of the Australian team who is critical to some of their biggest wins like the world cup final, WTC final as well as this series. India know this first hand.  He is the Australian battering ram and that is what Pant's role has been and it is his best use in a team. Just because Pant can defend a bit, it doesn't mean that he has to become a defensive batsman in the Pujara mode just because no one else in the team is able to. Plus he is a keeper. You can't ask one player to take on so many contrasting roles without them becoming a jack of all trades while being a master of none.
