Credit where due, he has shown grace. But don't get surprised if he changes tune two months down the line. 

 

Carlsen is blunt, sometimes cold, but always honest. Caruana, Aronian, So are gentlemen. Don't trust the others, not even Nakamura/Giri.

Its an open debate, in India a similar game was played but not exactly chess. Chess is believed to be a modified version of an ancient Indian game, at the same time it is argued that it originated in Persia.

 

To my query above, lots of grandmasters are there from Armenia and Azerbaijan (both were Persia in ancient times).

@Lord fun fact: Cricket too is believed to originate in India!

 

Persians learnt gilli danda from India. Romans learnt the same from Persia, later it disappeared from mainstream audience and was a shepherd's game in both Belgium and England. From there it was popularized as a Sunday pastime, and gradually over centuries it adopted stringent laws to become cricket as we know it.

 

Italians still play gilli danda in villages, I think it's called "lipa".

As an aside, Alireza who was born in Iran, became grandmaster at 14, and took French citizenship at the age of 18,  is regarded by Magnus as the young player with the highest potential among the current crop.

In the dying moments of the game yesterday, the CBI team gave up on the win and were reading Shayari and calling Ding as LalDingChadha.

 

Ding single-handedly with that rook move brought the whole chess world to life. Due to the immense time pressure, he was restless and impatient and gave the whole Championship to Gukesh on a Thali platter.

Imagine being in such company at the age of 18. Gukesh's parents must feel like the most blessed people on this planet. Forever number 18, even if he does nothing for the rest of his life......his name will be taken 100 years from now as a colossus.
