Totally agree. Reddy has bowled well enough in the very short spells he has been given and has taken some crucial wickets to boot. He swings the ball and can certainly do a job under a more imaginative captain. He is only 21 and needs encouragement and someone who can help him develop his skills. He has shown enough skill, fight and attitude so far for him to be persisted with. Players like him have a high ceiling with the right handling. Yet in Indian cricket culture, there is always a big drive to dump youngsters and go back to 35-40 year olds whose best days are clearly behind them.

They could have tried him with slightly newish ball and see what he does. May be he swings a bit more. Who knows.

They can try it this innings. I don't think Bumrah should be bowled and needs ot be saved. So let Reddy and Akash Deep bowl with the new ball with Siraj as first change.

Jadeja bowled horribly, worse than Sundar and Ashwin. But batted well. So what to do now, take a part time spinner for Melbourne or go back to Ashwin?? I would say drop Rohit and play Jadeja for him,  but that won’t happen for sure.

Due to the constraint of carrying two passengers, we're selecting players for the wrong reasons. We're picking a bowler (Jadeja) for his runs coz our 2 specialist batters are walking wickets. Can't really fix this situation unless Kohli & Rohit move on. We have to find players who can score runs. If these two can't do so we have to pick bowlers with better batting abilities than bowling.

 

Rather than hold batters accountable, we're compromising the team composition to work around the non-performing seniors. Essentially we're left juggling 9 players who can cover for the two retirees. When your numbers 10 & 11 bat with more skills and temperament, it says everything about our situation.

Exactly. Now it is very critical that Jadeja gets some wickets now in second innings to boost his confidence. Else we are going to Melbourne, kind of a spin friendly wicket , with our least effective spinner.

play both Sundar and Jadeja.

Yes Reddy is usually being bowled to well set batsmen so looks worse than he is.

What about Aus? They have a lot of dead wood on their hands not to mention the Haze.

 

Boland comes in  on his home turf the MCG. 

 

Plus I think Mitch Marsh is a goner and possibly Khawaja too.

 

Hopefully they pick some chap like Beau Webster in place of Marsh and Webster will be just as ineffective bowling/batting as Marsh. Maybe a 19 year old Sam Konstas in place of grandpa Usman? Maybe.... 

 

Aus should play a Lance Morris in place of Mitch Marsh - forget the allrounder crap.

 

Starc, Cummins, Boland and Morris is a half decent attack that can compete with Akashdeep and Siraj! heh heh!
