The Dark Horse Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Especially batsmen. Some exceptions might be there but this is a big list. Yuvraj Raina Rohit Dhoni (he's ok to an extent) Padikkal? Nitish Reddy (he's doing well though) Feel free to add. Some of these were given captaincy. The sufferers due to them are players like Badrinath Pujara Vihari These guys should have been given a longer run. Rahane was also starting to do well but was dropped.

Dhoni doesn't deserve to be on that list. He deservedly got into the team based on his domestic performances. He was hands down the best wk-batsman in domestic cricket at the time, and was a huge upgrade on the likes of Ajay Ratra, Deep Dasgupta, Vijay Dahiya etc. The Dark Horse, Vk1, Vijy and 2 others 5

No T20s then Karthik at that point was rated as keeper and played good innings v Pak. Ofcourse Dhoni never looked back once he debuted. singhvivek141 1

Averaging 50 at a strike rate of 80. If he had fixed his bouncer problem he could have been handy. But once again he is not going to play like Pujara. So will always be a high risk option.

He had this backfoot game that can annoy bowlers even overseas. You will have to bowl really full almost half volley length to make it a good length. May be his height. He could play even some of the good length balls off the backfoot comfortably. Lord and Vk1 1 1

But because of this problem he gets stuck on the backfoot expecting a bouncer every ball which makes his frontfoot game even more vulnerable. His simple solution should have been learning to leave those balls. instead he practice hours and hours trying to play shots against such balls. It only compounded the problem. But hey he doesn't have to care anymore. Now a millionaire.

He was the reason why we couldn't win the SCG Test in 2004 coz of his poor keeping and multiple dropped chances. He was such a poor wkt keeper and not that great a batsman as well. rtmohanlal 1

Dhoni did well in longer formats in domestic 4 day cricket. And his keeping was pretty decent. We had given chances to Parthiv Patel and he costed us the SCG Test in 2004. Dhoni was a pretty safe keeper and a much better batter.
maniac Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Patidar, Padikkal, SKY have played test cricket for India Next will be Samson, Rinku on T20 . The Dark Horse 1

vvvslaxman Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 (edited) I think India has to decide what type of players they want in Tests. Even before this series we did talk about this. This has to be the flashiest top order in a while Jaiswal - stroke player Gill - stroke player Rohit - desperate stroke player these days Kohli - stroke player Pant - stroke player They can all be on suicide mission on the same day. India lacks that guy who can arrest the slide. KL Rahul who is otherwise had an useless career suddenly looked better because of the unreliable game of other guys. So India has to insert someone who can spend time at the crease even if he doesn't have great FC numbers or doesn't have range of shots. Someone who is boring. We did drop Dhawan permanently for his flashy approach that led him to trouble. Murali Vijay put on a clinic by leaving over 1000 balls outside the off stump with great discipline during short peak of his career. That template is missing in this line up. There was a brief passage of play against England where England bombarded him with bouncers. He did not get sucked into it even once. He handled that passage brilliantly. That showed his temperament and maturity. maniac 1

He was a sitting duck in all the games in Australia, I like him as a guy but he didn't help his cause. Our options are limited, Sarfaraz always have a big question mark on his ability to play pace and bounce. Jurel is solid but we need more names. express bowling 1
