Has an international captain ever been such big liability on his team as Rohit ?

Ganguly's number look bad compared only in comparison of greats he batted alongside with. But he scored runs in Australia in 2004. Scored a 70+ in Pakistan tour in 2004. He had a few 50s in Pakistan's tour of India as well in 2005.

Rohit's poor run doesn't even come in the same zipcode.

Didnt he also score a double hundred in the Delhi test against Pak? Was he a captain?

That was in 2007. He lost form in 2003-05 period when he was the captain and was ousted by end of 2005.

He came back as a player after sometime and did well till retirement.

Rohit is terrific batsmen in Indian conditions. He is liability in other conditions just like Sehwag. He is better whiteball batsman than Sehwag.

Sehwag is better overall test batsman. But Sehwag was a liability on many countries also.

Sehwag was the only Indian batsmen who scored on those uncovered pitches in NZ in 2002. He also has a century at Melbourne. And he also has a century in South Africa. Something Rohit can only dream about.

Whitehall cricket comparison is debatable as well.

yeah right , scoring 195 which Sehwag did was on flattest MCG pitch, just like his 100 in SA where SA scored 560

This notion that Sehwag is better batsman than Rohit in overseas condition is ridiculous.Sehwag was walking wicket when ball moved a mm.

No Sehwag did not score in uncovered pitches in NZ in 2002-2003 test series. He barely reached double figures once. You are getting confused with odi series where Sehwag scored two 100s in that 2003.

Oh please. Sehwag never shied away from overseas tours like Rohit Sharma did. And if that MCG was a Patta, then why were we bowled out for 330 even though sehwag made 195?

Yeah I got the tests confused but those ODIs were low scoring as well and sehwag was the only one who stood out.

One major difference between sehwag and Rohit was that Rohit would always have slow starts and the onus would be on the batsman at the other to keep the Run rate moving. One positive for Rohit is that once set he makes big hundreds albeit aided by the two new balls rule in ODIs starting in 2011 that negated reverse swing in the middle overs.

Bhai kis se behas kar raha hai. As per this moron Kohli is better than Tendulkar so no wonder he find Rohit better than Sehwag  who's our best opening batsman after Gavaskar in our history.

The knocks Sehwag played in MCG, or in SA in his debut series, or in SL where he made a peak Murali and Mendis look like club level bowlers when all around him struggled were knocks Rohit can't even think of playing in his dreams. Sehwag has 2 triple 100s and was dismissed on 290+ once trying to hit the bowler for a 6 getting to another triple ton. He would've been the only batsman to score 3 triple tons!

Sehwag changed the way cricket is played and was the first opening batsman to take the attack to the bowlers. He declined drastically once his eyesight went after 2011. He tried wearing glasses and then contact lens but he wasn't the same again.

Unfortunately, many of our captains are.

Yum Yusss Deee was a huge liability in later part of his career, Gangu was liability throughout his captaincy and Azhar was also a liability during most of his captaincy. When Indian players become captains, many of them think they don't need to contribute as a player any more.

Problem for us is that along with a non-performing captain, we're also saddled with a non-performing ex-captain in Kohli. At max we can carry only one passenger. With two in the team it becomes well nigh impossible to win.

I never said Rohit was more courageous than Sehwag.  But Sehwag was not a better overseas batsman than Rohit.

MCG was Patta but our great FAB four had ability to lose their wickets on any wicket. Aussies smashed 550 plus and India promptly lost that MCG test.

No way Sehwag was better overseas batsman in any format than Rohit.

In this Series other than Head whose wicket Indian bowlers led by Bumrah cannot get , none of them are averaging great.

If Pattas are there Rohit will do as well as Sehwag.

Fab five including Sachin were laying eggs on juicy pitches like 2002 NZ series, they just got brushed under under prepared Pitches by people like you.

Maybe Ganguly shortly before his ouster. Problem was Ganguly was surrounded by batting geniuses in their prime so he looked clearly a liability whereas Rohit has so many out of form players around him so he gets under the radar

Ganguly was a very good captain. His issues with Greg Chappell and his dip in batting form made it look worse. But he did make a very good comeback as a batter before retirement. In his last 3 years he averaged 44.70 with 4 Test hundreds in 29 games. Even in his final Test he scored 85 against Australia. So he did make a successful comeback and don't forget, on his comeback he did score that important 50 in a game in which SA was bowled out for 84. Rohit is nowhere close to that, he just cannot bat at the moment.

2002 pitches in NZ were a joke, I watched the entire series. It was lottery and India not having a great pace attack was the major reason for our struggle. Zaheer was novice and the backups weren't that great. Ashish Nehra, Tinu Yohannan, Ajith Agarkar, Sanjay Bangar were India's pace attack. If India had Srinath the series could have been completely different. Zaheer was brilliant but did not receive any support from the rest of the pace attack. In the same series if we had someone like even Siraj & Akashdeep as backup, NZ wouldn't have even scored 100 in any of the innings, those pitches were so bad. Only 3 fifties were scored in the entire series, India had 2 and NZ just 1. In one of the Tests India got bowled out for 99 and managed to still get a 5 run lead. That's how pathetic the pitches were. Please don't compare the novices who play in this era to the fab 5, they neither have the hunger nor the talent they possessed. Sachin was way better than any Indian batter who is playing right now even at the age of 18. Just look at the 100 he scored in SA at the age of 18 against Alan Donald or his hundred in Melbourne in 1999 against McGrath, Lee and Warne. Even his 160 against SA on his last tour when he was 38 against Steyn & Morkel guiding India to 360 odd to gain parity with SA's total.

I watched that series too.It is not like NZ had Malcolm Marshals in their attack.People have erased that series as if it did not happen.

When you cannot score more than 161  it was their highest score  in four innings .So it did not need more fifties from NZ to beat a pathetic batting unit by overrated batting lineup from India.

No name Indian bowlers did their jobs fine in that series .

We will discuss about so called greatness of Sachin on another day.

Can't lump Ro and Ko together.

Ko even when in batting slump cared about winning as captain, like the previous England tour. Ro has no shame, no energy, no passion, has sucked the life out of Indian cricket. T20 WC win was despite his moronic captaincy.

0-3 against NZ was 99% captain's fault. He should have been fired after that, but it seems no one can question him. Bakwaskar would rather criticize Ashwin's retirement timing.

I still cannot believe the pitches they chose for NZ series. They had no reason to play only those bunsen burners even after first test loss, Rohit and Gambhir both of them failed Indian team. Those under prepared wickets helped NZ more.

Rohit never deserved to become test captain or Indian captain in any format in the first place.

He's Kohli himself

Unnecessarily pressed panic button when we had such wonderful results against Eng earlier this year on traditional, good Indian wickets.

he is a terrible captain, and gambhir is an equally (if not more) atrocious "coach"
