By now Pant, Gill and KL need to do a lot more, they are younger and in their prime. The reason why Gill and KL are easily dropped or moved around in the batting order is due to their mediocre returns. I guarantee that if they were well established batsmen averaging over 40, they would also be untouchable. Gill and KL are averaging mid 30’s after playing so many matches for an Indian Test batsmen is an abomination. Pant, has the skills but is more interested in having fun rather than team goals. Playing high risk when the need of the hour is just defend and get your side a draw. Life is not binary 0 and 1. Expecting someone to be main batter - 1 Performance of RoKo - 0 and can be considered negative as others are getting impacted to accommodate them. They are expected to be somewhere in between - 0.3 -0.4 i.e. scoring 30-50 runs when needed. Vijy 1
bowl_out Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 I like the idea of sitting himself out. Blame it on a niggle or something. Play the Championships trophy and then call it quits from all formats

Rohit has been averaging around 10 for 10+ innings now, which is tailender-level batting. And Kohli has an avg of about 30 for the last 5 years (at the time, he was 31 - not an old player!). Defending these washed-up players is a real travesty. Obviously, Gill and Pant (to an extent KL also) have not done well this tour, but we need to start with the worst two performers, who are clearly Rohit and Kohli. It’s like saying a Formula F1 car tyre can’t be expected to perform as well because it’s getting old. if Sharma and Kohli can’t expected to be the main batters, why are they in the team and what is their role? Senior support batters? Senior fielder advisors? This isn’t my daddy’s Honda City where I do jugaad and run the old tyres another couple thousand km. its the ICT. Your ICT and mine. it's nice to see there are Ro-Ko bhakts apart from the usual ones still alive and kicking.

If I were in place of Sharma, I would also not retire when I know I can play for another year and make 50 cr. Being test captain is big thing in Indian side. Cricketers have just 10-12 years to make money and have to use it for next 40 years while saving for their kids also. It doesn't make sense to do away with 10% of that earning. That's a very selfish thinking though. Even Ashwin could have waited for his chance was a surety in Indian conditions, but he realized its better for the team to move to Sundar.. His IPL paycheck will go down too.

I have struggled in jobs and didn't leave it because I was getting paid. No one leaves their job as long as it pays or unless they think they don't have any future in it. It's ridiculous to suggest that people should leave on their own. Self awareness as in making statements like youngsters should've batted longer, or saying he's "monitoring Bumrah's workload" etc. Both Rohit and Kohli should be booted out by selectors as nobody's going to leave the gravy train on their own.

First class Posted January 2, 2025 Posted January 2, 2025 Mike Denness, English captain dropped himself due to poor form during Ashes tour of Australia in 1974-75 , Ironically at Sydney test. He had score 65 runs in previous 3 tests by then. Sharma has scored 31 in 3 tests. Vijy 1

Although highly unlikely but I don't think they will drop them before CT25(they still will shamelessly continue after it though)as they want to have some kind of buildup Icc themselves don't want these yesteryear overrated stars to retire early or anytime soon and want to pull whatever little hype they can for an already unwanted trophy Icc event each year is already killing cricket and WTC will finish off test cricket Edited January 2, 2025 by Suhaan Vijy 1
