Wish we had decent bowlers those days, This was a sure win We lost more due to dropthiv than the bowlers. Oh the umpiring was awful as well. They basically rewarded Steve Waugh's for his last test. rollingstoned 1

Does he leave that ball too? Take a close look at what Mitch Johnson did to him 2015 WC SF. They bowled to him chest high deliveries leaving him. That left him with no option but to go for an expensive pull. Any other batsman would have played those dab downs to third man easily but Kohli didn't have those shots. Kohli changed his bat grip after that to develop those shots but it is still not natural. Lone Wolf 1

Kumble outbowled seamers on this pitch Ganguly too didnt impose follow on https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.rediff.com/amp/cricket/2004/jan/06india.htm Anil Kumble's introduction into the attack brought some sanity to the proceedings. India were desperately unlucky as Ajit Agarkar produced some good inswinging deliveries to Langer. Twice the ball pitched in line with the leg-stump, straightened and trapped Langer right in front. But umpire Bucknor gave the batsman a lease of life both times. Parthiv Patel did not help matters when he missed a regulation stumping just after tea. His third clear mistake of the match and most probably the costliest. With Australia two down for 124, Ponting, who was on 15, charged Kartik. The ball turned after pitching in the rough outside the off-stump and beat the batsman completely. Patel had clear sight of the ball all along and it was appalling to see an international wicket-keeper miss such an easy chance. In the first innings he gifted lives to Katich and Gillespie. All the runs scored from that partnership made sure that Ganguly would not be able to enforce the follow-on. Patel's inability to rise with the ball proved to be his undoing again in the second innings. The umpires appeared benevolent towards the Australians. A plumb leg before decision against Martyn, on 22, was overruled by Billy Bowden. Kumble, quite obviously, couldn't believe his eyes. It was the third such appeal that had gone against the Indians. Australia were 136 at that stage. rollingstoned, Lord and AuxiliA 1 2

The Hound Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 Saw bracken in there, thought he only played ODIs. What was the point of scoring 700+ and not letting bowlers have enough time to bowl them out twice?? Vijy and Lord 2

Bracken is often unfairly called poor Test bowler. fact is that he either played against very strong batting lineups or on batting friendly pitches or both. he was a solid performer in Aus domestic cricket during their peak years, and was thus a good bowler. People often like to downplay 2003-04 Aus attack as though it was utter crap. Loss of McGrath was indeed huge, but 2005 ashes also didn't have McG and yet goras don't downplay that win. Absence of Warne was not a big deal on Aus pitches (where he avg >50 vs India) since McGill was a topnotch replacement (who also got brutalized by India). Lastly, Lee and Gillespie were still there. Maybe there is some misunderstanding. Kohli does dabs well. That's one of his staple shots back then when chasing big targets. To rotate strike. Even before 2015. Vijy and Lord 1 1

He tried to then negate that by coming down and batting way out of the crease to cover the swing & make it as full as he can. The square cut ball has no such solution. The over reliance on cover drive will always trouble him. Cape Town test 2022 when he score 15-20 off some 120 balls exposed that he kept leaving those balls & Saffers kept bowling that square cut short of good length ball & he eventually fell. He is a extremely limited player if you restrict his limited scoring areas. So he keeps leaving all the balls that are to be square cut? How did he manage to handle that in ODIs in his prime?
Texan Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 To expect the supposed King to make this attempt, first he will have to accept that he has a weakness. Its been 10 years we have been seeing the same mode of dismissal, yet the arrogant king will never accept it as a weakness. rollingstoned 1

Hence, once he rides out first 15-20 balls, he can go on with his front foot plonking and driving; along with his leg-side game
