bowl_out Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Wagon wheel of boundaries from that innings The two shots on the off side were square cuts off short balls bowled by McGill. Nothing else on the off side. sensible-indian, nitinbwj, raki05 and 1 other 2 2
vvvslaxman Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 One shot teh guys in the 80s,90s, 2000s had was tuck around the corner. square leg , behind square leg. That was a shot natural to them almost all the Indian batsmen. But if you look at Kohli, Gill they don't play that shot very well. That was a great release shot back then for rotating the strike. Azharuddin was probably the master of that shot. Shastri had similar shot that was called "Chappathi" shot. Kohli doesn't have any other shots to take singles. nitinbwj and raki05 2
goose Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 proper risk management. the worst thing you can do in this situation is connect sweetly with a cover drive. death is guaranteed raki05 1

He had the ability to play the ball to every part of the on side ranging from deep fine leg to long on. You need more onside shots. Not just on drive. raki05 and Vijy 1 1

It is the best singles shot for all those batsmen. You don't place a fielder directly infront of leg umpire. So that spot is typically open. raki05 and littlemaster1982 1 1
Lone Wolf Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 (edited) I have always said Kohli is one of the least talented Indian batters who have played for so long. He doesn't have 3 major shots that normally every batter has even 2 would suffice. Square cut, backfoot punch, sweep vs spin. Add Square drive as well. No young batter should idolize his style of batting. Bobzy the ling in his love for Cover drives and becoming fake Kohli has already lost the ability and reflexes to play those shots. So for the backfoot punch...kohli leaves the ball. For a ball that needs to be square cut..what does he do? Does he leave that ball too?

He tried to then negate that by coming down and batting way out of the crease to cover the swing & make it as full as he can. The square cut ball has no such solution. The over reliance on cover drive will always trouble him. Cape Town test 2022 when he score 15-20 off some 120 balls exposed that he kept leaving those balls & Saffers kept bowling that square cut short of good length ball & he eventually fell. He is a extremely limited player if you restrict his limited scoring areas. sensible-indian and rollingstoned 2

At his peak he had the sweep shot and a square drive. Never the cut shot though What's worse is the range is even more limited now. Not seen him go inside out vs spin in recent years too. Lone Wolf 1
lemsip Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 He is basically an ODI batsman who struck a purple patch in tests about 10 years ago and has been dining out on it since helped by a sycophantic media bubble. He was a good captain leading a pace led bowling attack overseas but that's pretty much it. He is being brutally exposed as he has started ageing and has stopped playing domestic cricket to prepare for critical test series. He belongs in the ODI tournaments and IPL for his remaining career.
Laaloo Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 I mean the pitch was flat but it takes immense dedication to curb your instincts. Imagine innovating after 15 years of playing cricket? Rasgulla 1
