Greatest comeback.

For those of us disillusioned with Indian cricket after the home South Africa series loss & Match fixing saga, this was like an elixir.. revived us from the depths of hellhole.

That series only comes in behind BGT 2020-21 in Aus, and both the series felt like winning a WC

Honestly, better. I never thought anything could surpass the 1983 feeling. But right now, in my mind:

kolkata 2001 - we won by 171 runs. 171 was also india's first innings total.

 

we went from following on (and likely innings defeat) to inflicting an innings defeat of sorts on the opponent!

Great achievement but way below 2020-21 for me. We had some luck with umpiring. Also, credit to the magnanimity of Aussies who didn't hide behind any excuse over Bhajji's illegal action. Blatant chucker who had blanket immunity because of his board. Murali had his action tested many times and public trials, Ajmal was banned, but this guy was a javelin thrower till the end of his career in IPL. Bedi never rated him for a good reason.

2014 WT20 hurts and the actual brakes were applied by Senanayake in middle overs against Yuvi, blatant chucking.

 

So my sympathies with 2000s Aussies who had to deal with the unfairness of Bhajji hurling his throws for a good 10 odd years. England couldn't handle one series of Chuckmal, but Aussies had 5-6 BGTs in that decade. 

 

Today's cricket is so much cleaner, fairer.

Even with Senanayeke chucking we should've scored 150-160, which would've been a winning total. Yuvi neither hit out or got out. And we had someone like Raina, our best T20 batter, who couldn't even bat! If Raina had come in earlier or Yuvi dismissed cheaply or even retired out, we would've won the match.

That 2021 BGT series win was amazing. Probably the greatest sporting underdog story. I'm surprised we haven't made a 6 part series on it similar to Bodyline.

Dhoni's worst day as captain. Selection, batting order, field placement, all sucked that day. Beginning of our long drought in ICC KOs.

Rahane opened in that 2014 WT20 final as well. 3(8), on what basis that guy played two WT20s including KOs, is beyond me. Even Saha was a more explosive option as opener back then. 

 

PS: Rahane 32(30) in that SF against RSA, when we were chasing 180. * Forget no balls and dropped catches, we deserved to lose 2016 SF just on the basis of selecting Rahane.

Rahane phucked us in 2016 WT20 SF as well scoring a 37 ball 40 on a patta at Wankhede. And after that innings he was saying 160 is the par score and we should win easily 

 

If Rahane hadn't been there in white-ball format we probably win a title or two during 2014-2016 phase. Absolutely useless and should've only played Tests.

Dhoni should've retired out Yuvraj that day and pushed Raina in. Or maybe Kohli should've ran Yuvi out. Yuvraj was the reason for that defeat. Scored 13 off 23 balls, and was the difference we were 25 runs short. And along with stalling himself, he also broke the momentum for Kohli who had started to play his shots. Yuvi totally sucked any momentum and made the difference between a 160 and a 130 target.

He wasn't chucking in this series. And I don't think he threw every ball like Ajmal . Maybe for short periods here and there

He chucked often though and that created uncertainty in batters' mind. It was almost like a doosra or mystery ball for him. Chuck one when in trouble but the batter never knew when it would come so had to be extra cautious.

First time I saw him properly chuck a ball was a doosra he bowled against England in the ODI's in 2001/02. May have been when he took a fifer. 

 

Ironically , he is one of those bowlers who I felt got worse the more he chucked it and got some pace on the ball. 

 

Ajmal was different. He could bowl upto 120 kph and bowl doosras at 100 kph + etc. 

 

Every ball in that 2011-2014 period was a blatant throw.
