Sarfaraz should've been there, and probably Harshit Rana too. The biggest problem is that we've devalued Indian captaincy by handing it to someone like Gill who hasn't even nailed down his Test spot so far.

 

Gill has shown himself to reek of jealousy the way he has interacted with Suryavanshi, Pant (after the last match which GT lost) and generally whenever he loses or an opponent is doing well. He's petty and more concerned about him than the team. We all saw that when he demoted Abhishek playing his debut series right after Abhishek scored a 100 in his 2nd match. Gill came in as opener the very next game pushing Abhishek down the order.

 

Someone like Shreyas Iyer would've been a much better choice as he has shown he can build a team, shows up in big games or big moments, and has shown improvement. Surely Iyer can average 35 as well in Tests just like Gill. A poor choice of captain and BCCI as usual taking one step forward and two backwards.

Pretty sure omission of Sarfaraz/Iyer is GG's call, if you go by past reports he doesn't like those two guys. 

Sarfaraz will be persona non grata as he is believed to be the one behind all the news leaks during BGT. If true then that is the right call.

Thakur saab is just to provide some experience...and cover for the potential failure of Indian Batting...

They have to be brave and pick an attack that will keep that English batting lineup under pressure relentlessly from both ends. 

 

I don't agree with compromising the bowling attack for some batting insurance.  It's a good strategy in white ball cricket but doesn't work in Tests.

Except for Sarfaraz's exclusion, can't complain about the squad. 

 

Good to see Karun Nair back. 

Glad to see Sai included. 

Hope Nitish proves that he is not a one series wonder

As good as Karun was in Ranji, I am not convinced. Sarfaraz has done that for years continuously. Whatever chances he got in tests he has grabbed albeit at home. 

 

Rana dropped for no reason 

 

As good as Krishna is in the IPL, I can't get over his repeated ineptitude in the last part of Ozzie tour. One can see him bowl 4-10 good overs. Then?

 

Akashdeep better get his lengths right or be "unlucky" forever.

 

Easwaran picked for no reason. 

 

Regardless full support for those selected. May they shine and usher in a new era with flying colors?!

Sarfraz was picked recently, did well when he got a chance.. Should have been there instead of Nair or Easwaran

Iyer definitely another miss.

One of Easwaran or Nair will start. Depending on that KL will bat at 1 or 5.

 

Top 5 is either : 

KL, Jaiswal, Sai, Gill, Nair 

Or 

Easwaran, Jaiswal, Sai, Gill, KL

 

Followed by Pant, Jadeja at 6,7

 

One of Nitish,Washington,Thakur at 8

 

And Three pacers at 9,10,11

Gill is going to leave his spot no.3. This team doesn't have anyone like Pujara or Vijay who bat time, balls. Jaiswal is the only guy. Pant has to be a massive factor alongwith Jaddu.

Yeah. I think he'll move down to 4. It's also a spot taken by legendary batters Sachin and Kohli.
