IPL 2025

GT has looked superb when it plays to its potential but in the last few games, the team hasn’t looked sharp - compounded by probably complacency and playing knocked out teams who play in a nothing to lose fashion esp. when batting first without pressure. On top of that, the fielding has been casual too at times. Overall, it in the last few games, it appears as if GT takes a step forward and then a step backward, not building momentum.

Heading into the playoff, GT needs to pull up its socks and recapture its intensity that sets it apart from other teams.

Other major issue is the unavailability of Jos Buttler for the playoff but it also serves as an opportunity for Kusal Mendis to make his mark in IPL.

Preferred team for playoff:

Gill

Sai S

Mendis

Rutherford

SRK

Tewatia

Shanaka or Coetzee

Rashid

Arshad

Sai K

Siraj

Krishna

Depending on form and pitch, there could be a case to play Sundar as well.

Go Wolves … let’s get the 2nd title in 2025 :aha:

GT is too dependent on their top 3,If the top 3 goes early they may loose easily

Unfortunately, there is no perfect team in IPL esp. considering playing in various conditions. A majority of teams have 4-6 key players (batsmen + bowlers) whose performances determine the outcome.

Rashid will have do well for GT to win KO. Sai-Gill cant keep carrying you whole tournament.

Those 4 bankable overs have become bankable for opposition. That is where they have a massive leak. Not sure how they can fix it. They can't drop him for sure. Sai Kishore against left handers is a sitting duck. So Rashid khan has to step up. They should have used Sharukh as a bowler. He was decent in TNPL.

They should hope RCB lose against LSG. If RCB win, GT will finish third irrespective of how the MI vs PBKS game goes.

If they finish in the top two, I'm confident they'll get to the finals.

Overall, a good learning season. Need better planning to optimize the performance.

* If Buttler was leaving, Mendis should have been asked to at least play the game against CSK as on his IPL debut, he looked nervous.

* If Coetzee was not bowling in PP in place of Arshad, Arshad should have played. There was no point in disturbing Krishna’s middle overs.

* Horrendous fielding and catching - Coetzee and Mendis were nervous. Coetzee struggled in the final over, not knowing what to do.

Consider letting go of:

* Tewatia and SRK. They have not been relatively consistent with the bat and do not bowl regularly as well. Their fielding can be on and off. Many times, they take singles when big hits are needed displaying a lack of confidence. Maybe should have been asked to bat up the order in one of the games
* Coetzee and Rabada - appear to be going through the motions in the IPL on many occasions

* Karim Janat - more or less a passenger at the moment unless he shows improvement in his game

Retain: Buttler, Rashid, Glen Philips, Mendis (can be played as a batsman too), Rutherford (if in good form), Shanaka (for lower order hitting), and get 2 good overseas bowlers, the ones that can execute a plan (not necessarily big names)

Retaining Tewatia and SRK while letting go of Noor Ahmed (hoping to buy him back cheap in the auction) proved a costly gamble as the bowling looked relatively weak without him esp. with Rashid not clicking.

Anyways, come back stronger and smarter in 2026!

GT punched way above their weight same as what PK is doing.

With a Mo/lower mo of rutherford, sharuk, sundar, tewatia you do not expect to go long add additional low SR openers but they did their openers were consistent at their pace and their top 3 performed, then rutherford had a good season for an unproven intnl player playing in mo.

Now add bowlers like krishna and Siraj who are know to leak runs but this season they bowled well and Krishna is Purple cap holder, and regressing rashid.

Would say GT did v.well with what they had, is it repeatable with same bunch not  sure about it, they need to change the tactics in PP need to bring in Some1  who can really bat a good SR. And batters who could end/finish the innings well.

They are not slow. Way above league average. Their average partnership is above 10 run per over.

That's an odd season with many players going at such strike rates. But they aren't bottom tier. There Markram, Kohli, Decock, Duplessis, Rahul and maybe other openers you didn't mention. But rather than calling them slow, you can say others have been faster.

Now GT can keep pulling their socks till the next season . :dontknow:

MI spoiled GT’s chances based on law of averages. After losing so many games to GT, it was going to have a good game and that came in the eliminator
