putrevus Posted June 11, 2025 Posted June 11, 2025 Eating with hands is not wrong but the place where she was eating is completely wrong. Why is she talking so loud, what happens if the plate falls due to sudden brakes.

Chaos Posted August 19, 2025 Posted August 19, 2025 (edited) Look, this is a bit much on a foreign soil let alone in a packed train. Some of our indian food can have a unique smell from spices and masala which is hard NOT to get attention and if you AMPLIFY IT WITH LOUD CONVERSATION on phone like that is straight up irritating. When i go to india and in our family gatherings at home some times i might eat it with my hand (chicken tandoori, lamb chops, biryani and keema). Edited August 19, 2025 by Chaos Lord 1

Even daal chawal....it is far more fulfilling when I eat with hands but due to habbit, we eat with spoon....if i remember, i will definitely eat with hands next time. What could be the reason why it is more fulfilling? It is a scientific question and i recommend everyone to eat rice with any sabji with hands. Chaos and Gollum 2

This is how you are supposed to eat rice with a fork and knife. This is how goras and some elites from South Mumbai eat rice..

I think in my home rice is made 2 times or less in a week. Edited August 19, 2025 by randomGuy

It's probably because of how we grew up eating, and the association that was made in the brain between the actions of hand movement and satiety/fulfillment. My mother/grandma fed me solid foods with their hand, and that association is likely indelible. Someone who was fed from infancy with a spoon/fork may not have that same association and sense of fulfillment. It is interesting that the even the fork-knife people eat pizza / burger with their hands because that is how they were trained to do it from a young age, and will not be fulfilled by forking those foods. Even more interesting is that some elder Indians I know eat dal chaawal with hands, but put a pizza slice in front of them and they want fork-knife ('coz it's angreji food?) Vancouver Posted August 19, 2025 Posted August 19, 2025 It's important to be mindful of other passengers. You have all the right to stick to your guns and eat with hands, talk loudly on the phone. Do what you want but don't feel offended if others do not share your views. Don't know about London, but in Vancouver trains have stickers plastered all over regarding no eating and be mindful about noise. I still see people eating all the time but mostly American fast food takeouts or snacks. I don't mind people taking phone calls as long as not on the speaker phone, which I noticed Africans and Filipinos are most to blame. But Indians constantly talk on phone, it's hard to spot even one Indian not on phone especially girls. coffee_rules 1
