RABADA VS BUMRAH

This topic deserves a serious discussion

I think RABADA is quite underrated for obvious reasons.

He is miles better than Australian seamers or any other pacer in world and his only competition is bumrah

At age of 30 he has 336 wickets at 21.75 avg

Key metrics

Wicket per match 4.7

5 wicket haul 17 times

And has done it against the best many times and now this all time great performance in a Wtc final

Though bumrah appears more lethal RABADA effectiveness in terms of running through teams appear more

Who is better and why?

Ps:-Test cricket only

Bumrah is not better than Rabada.  Bumrah is WAY better than Rabada. Right from the beginning, he has performed outside his country. His own country is not the best place for pace bowling, yet his record in India is impeccable. Bumrah comes from a country where pace bowling is never given importance. Whereas, Rabada comes from a country where they have produced great fast bowlers, and they encourage fast bowlers.

Not winning finals cannot be pinned on Bumrah. In all of those finals, the batters have let India down badly.

Efficacy of a player can't always be determined by numbers. There's way too many things to consider.

Rabada in test cricket. Bumrah in white ball.

Don't forget Rabada won RSA a series in Aus when he was a rookie, in 2016. Has struggled only in India, Pakistan.

RSA winning this WTC will be a landmark moment for them, like 1983 for us. They have endured so many heartbreaks in their journey, 1998 mini-WC was just winning 3 matches, this one is a 2 year cycle in the ultimate format. Will rejuvenate RSA cricket, and keep test cricket alive for a few more years.

Rabada with a 9fer against all odds, against the final bosses of cricket, that too when they were mostly chasing the game, will elevate his stature as the greatest test pacer post Steyn. He has started correcting his record in SC btw. Anyway even if he has bad record in 1-2 countries, his legacy is sealed.

Bumrah hasn't really won anything major for his side in test cricket. 2020-21 BGT, he was not among the top 4-5 contributors (unlike Rabada in 2016 Australia), Eng we could only draw (and he was taken apart in 5th test) and he was often overshadowed by Siraj in both those series, and also in Cape Town last year. This BGT again a one-sided defeat, though Bumrah fought like a lion, unlucky. NZ complete flop, WTC wicketless across both innings on that pitch !!!! 2018-19 BGT came against a weak Aussie batting lineup.

He still has time but steep challenge. Rabada also has the edge in longevity, numbers, fitness.

In ODIs though both are mediocre/impactless, Bumrah has the edge. Shami or Starc any day for me in that format.

T20s is one format where Bumrah rules, though I doubt players like Rabada, Cummins are losing sleep over that format, be it WC or IPL. If T20s defines your legacy, then even Gul, Malinga will be talked as greats. Or IPL megastars Bhuvi, Mohit, Mishra, Chawla.

Bumrah is still an ATG, MVP of Indian cricket. Just that he is up against another generational player in this case. Due to not being part of Big 3, smaller PR/media/fandom, RSA greats like Smith, Kallis, Steyn, Amla, Rabada are underrated by Indians....AB's case is different because of his association with IPL.

I'd disagree.

2018-19 - was main guy

2020-21 - was one of the main guys in mcg

2021 eng - won the lord's and oval tests o/w would have been draws

rabada has been poor in ind and pak. even nz 29 average.

bumrah 31 avg in nz worst. everywhere else is 25ish and below.

2027 world cup will be the ultimate battle between Rabada, Bumrah and Cummins. Both Starc and Hazelwood will retire by then or will be quite old. Rabada will have better support bowlers and home advantage. If Bumrah can still outbowl him and win the cup, we can say he's the better bowler in LOIs

For some reason Bumrah bowls better on flat pitches than seaming ones. He cannot blow away the opposition teams on rigged pitches like Rabada.

In a way Rabada is the Ashwin of pacers, meanwhile Bumrah is the Lyon/Warne

Bumrah is better, he has performed in each and every country and has came out with amazing numbers (except NZ but he has played only 2 games there).

Bumrah has performed exceptionally on the home turf as well which is a paradise for the spinners.

Comparing their away numbers will tell their worth. Rabada has played 37 of 71 games (more than 50%) at home. He has poor record in India & Pakistan, in NZ he is avg 29...just okaish. Bumrah's worst is 31 in NZ.

Even on Rabada's hometurf, Bumrah edges out Rabada.

Likes of Rabada, Cummins, Hazelwood, all are world class bowlers. Unfortunately Bumrah is a generational bowler.

This match seals the debate for next few years at least, especially if you contrast to Bumrah's no-show in 2021 final on a much more pacer friendly wicket.

Rabada's name will go down in history as the man who inspired his nation to an ICC trophy after 3 decades of heartbreaks, conquering the toughest possible opponent at the home of cricket, in the ultimate format. Aussie fans themselves rate Bumrah very highly, but their admiration towards Rabada is next level.

No matter how it goes in 27, Bumrah will always be the better bowler in LOIs, among the trio at least.

All formats combined, I'll give it to Bumrah, then Cummins and last place Rabada. But in test cricket, Rabada>Bumrah>Cummins.

I agree to this mostly. Rabada has bigger sample size in test with very good avg also has a silverware now but bumrah is not far behind and has an stunning avg of 19.70 if he wins anicc test championship he will be in the list of goat bowler.

Anyway, this era is blessed to have so many great pacers. Aussie trio, Rabada, Bumrah, Shami, Boult all contemporaries, and just a few years older Steyn, Broad, Anderson, Philander, Malinga. Even someone like Southee is a Gough/Srinath level bowler...Ishant had his resurgence, Umesh one of the best ever on SC pitches, Wagner with his unique skillset. Hope Shamar Joseph builds on his Gabba heroics. Exciting prospects from RSA and NZ as well.

Of course no Pook on the list because of clampdown on chucking and ball tampering.

Rabada had support from his batter Markram. Who supported Bumrah? If so called "Kings" and "Hitmen" had scored 130+ in finals, he would've won plenty too. People forget that Aus won the last WTC due to Head's 160+ and before that NZ batters stood up. Eventually your batters have to show up and can't expect your bowlers to bail you out and clean your shyte everytime.

What have our star batters done to support Bumran and bowlers? I blame it on the batters. As an example likes of Hazlewood, Starc, Cummins have 4 ICC trophies and Bumrah barely one and even for that one Bumrah had to come up with the best bowling figures ever recorded in a tourney (2024 WT20). It's coz for Aus their star batters - Warner, Smith, Head etc. - stood up. But for us none of our stars (looking at you Kohli and Rohit) ever did so. Any comparable performances which his Aussie counterparts and now Rabada got from their batters, and Bumrah ends up with 4-5 ICC tourneys as well.

Absence of Kohli in 2021 BGT is under-rated lol If he had been there, we would not have won for sure

That's a given. Every time Kohli hasn't played, the team has done so much better. Beat Aus in Aus in 2021, beat Eng 4-1 at home despite liabilities like KS Bharat and Patidar in the team.

The moment the over the hill liability came back, we were clean swept at home by NZ for the first time ever in our history and also lost BGT after a decade. It has been Jadeja, Ashwin and Pant and the lower order cleaning his shyte forever. Playing Kohli and Rohit left us with 9 players facing 11 opponents and we couldn't cover up for them.
