Your opinion is based on visiting India as a FBCD and not having a lived experience. You have no idea where we were and where we are heading. India began a diverse community, a lot of difference in cultures within 5 miles of distance. Some of the issues like civic sense, filth, comes from not being a homogenous community. Corruption and L&O is coming from growing population and less resources available for all. Even with increaing population from 50s to 90s, GDP increase / growth was minimal due to Congress license raj, IT regime and socialist ecomomic policies. It's only since 90s due to liberalization, GDP growth is noticeable, not all GDP growth can be attributed to population alone. Prvate sector growing is a success story of India. Public sector failing is a bane.

So littering and spitting is due to diversity? I don't see the same issue in Belgium or Switzerland. China also has many different ethnic groups. 80% of the most polluted cities in the world are in India. Stop with the excuses.

 

I know exactly where India was and where it is going. I've seen improvements but it's been at snail pace. The likes of Korea and China were even behind India in the 1950s and look where they are now. 

 

The biggest problem is that there has never been any movement to educate the masses in India. And also the ability to take constructive criticism.

Stop being an outsider like the ones calling Indians Pajeet crowd. Inner cities in most European countries and US are as filthy as some Indian places. There are some beautiful suburbs in India that are as beautiful as the west. You are making a narrative that all of India is filthy like the Slumdog Millionair movie. I have visited Paris in 2005, 2013 and 2018. Each time, the city is filthier every time I visit and the the Seine river looks more black and dirty esp in the Latin quarter (Notre Dame area.

Now the Odisha sexual harrasment case. Two weeks of protest by her and complaint by her, yet no action was taken. She got 90% burns after self immolating. Such is the law of order in Odisha. I have a different take. Political leaders have patronage and commit crimes without fear of law. But the vast majority of rapes happen due to lack of upbringing education morality less interaction eith women...sexual frustration..economic divide ..they fear the law but still commit the crimes..it cannot be blamed on govt or lawlessness but Indian men requires education awareness and deterrence. The first two are tough but the last should be implemented

 

Every rapist picture made public and shared with their neighborhood  once convicted

Put on rigorous imprisonment ...solitary confinement for 5 years and then set free but castrated permanently.

 

Create a national sex offender registry. For each rapist..add their family's name too so that family is shamed into taking action.

As if there has been free and fair elections in WB. Communists captured power through violent means from Congress with leaders like Jyoti Basu. TMC broke from Congress used a similar way to come to power through violent means. BJP is yet to resort to similar means.

Do you and i have our house in order ? Do we not try to get out of a messy situation like traffic violation by paying some bribe ? The day all of us Indians started following rules will we get leaders who only want to do the right things.

Luckily I have not been in a position but I do get your points..when I say all of us Indians..it means you and me too. However the problem of corruption is two fold..the govt officials need to be paid well but there should be strict enforcement but in India enforcement is lax even it is in your face...

 

Recently saw the news of two IRS officers getting married...one carries Louis Vuitton handbags in Instagram photo shoots and had a 28 crore wedding and the  dad and Mom of one of them on paper are police officer and working in bank in Delhi .to figure and connect the dots and imaging what will happen with the children now as IRS officers.
