singhvivek141 Posted July 6, 2025 Posted July 6, 2025 Simple reason, funding from outside. We are now seeing the language issue is gulping down every state. If this continues soon people in UP, MP Bihar will start heckling the outsiders too. There are sizeable amount of South Indians in Bhopal and Maharastrians in Indore, Lucknow. State govts need to speak up, say that state language is important...but it wont be allowed to use as a violence. I mean just months back, Pakistan killed the people who were from Maharastra, Karnataka, UP, Haryana...they didn't ask for the language. Vickydev 1

People are anyways speaking it in Maharashtra. Maharashtrian, Gujaratis, Muslims, Sikhs, South Indians are all friendly and living happily in Maharashtra as friends, neighbours , professional colleagues, business contacts etc Maharashtra parties like OG SS, Sharad Pawar's OG NCP and others did not go to other states stating Marathi should be imposed. Similarly South parties did not go to UP, Lucknow etc demanding South indian languages should be used. BJP should focus on improving Maharashtra. Stop the ladli bahin or whatever that scheme is called. Just increasing debt of Maharshtra. Do not waste tax payers money for vote gains. SS and NCP have done so much for Maharashtra over decades and they made Maharashtra the number one state in GDP. Even infra projects. What has BJP done for Maharashtra. It will need decades of power in Maharashtra to do what NCP , SS have done. Not their mistake, people did not vote for them in local elections more often than not. If one check how many yeara BJP was in power in local bodies and elections one will be surprised. It is mostly about SS and NCP. There are many things to actually work upon than build up this hindu muslim divide, start language imposition and other useless activities which does not contributes to economy, infrastructure development, education etc. Dont turn a city like Mumbai and state like Maharashtra into a tier 2 or 3 city or state. We have progressed a lot and dont pull us down. Let Mumbai be Mumbai.

I will not go into details due to lack of time but the major points. But if anybody multiple generations have stayed in Mumbai and Maharashtra, the below highlights are enough to guess what I am talking about. Not a secret, these are projects that changed Mumbai and maharashtra decades after independence. Mumbai infra developed under Balasahebs guidance when SS was in power. Especially transport. Britishers did not build projects which were initiated by Balasaheb and completed in his lifetime. Konkan developed under INC and SS. Rail connectivity. Western Maharashtra developed because of Sharad Pawar and NCP. BJP was not even voted to be in power by Maharasthra people apart from few years. BJP is in coalition with politicians from NCP and SS. BJP has done good at national level, but it has not received mandate in Maharashtra politics the way NCP and SS received since decades. Maharashtra's growth is under SS and NCP. Someone who has lived in those times and has numerous generations living in Mumbai and Maharashtra are aware which projects I am referring to. As for libraries, there already are enough. SS started some libraries in BMC, one is their in Prabodhankar theatre, there is one at Dadar. There are hundreds of public libraries in Maharashtra. Plus there are 1000's of libraries which are private. There are many in government aided schols and colleges. How many libraries do you need. Guess what the libraries are enough. But my favorite was the British Council Library near Vidhan Bhavan which was at Churchgate. What a library. I enrolled there in 90's and I am a big fan of it. I would like to write more on this library but I am short of time. People who are book worms and have stayed in Mumbai and used it will also know what I mean so there is no need to take extra time and write what others have also experienced. Mumbai and Maharshtra are in class of its own. Dharavi, Jogeshwari, Mohammed Ali road will not change much. You can relocate people from slum into appartments but the mentality of slum will remain. It will take generation or two to change. Jogeshwari has changed a lot, Bandra West (Baba S area) there is another fight about who should do slum rehab. Just like debate about Dharavi and Adani. The Mumbra slum is also a votebank. The slum in Borivali on the link road near IC Mumbai is amazing place. INC, SS amd NCP have done lot of good work. Yes there is scope of improvement as is case in every state but that does not mean the parties who have been voted have doen nothing. BJP is ruling Gujarat longer yhan other parties, it is behind than what Maharshtra is. So this drama of BJP cares for locals and everything is fine in states ruled by BJP is just a narrative. And if it matters, I am not anti-BJP. Just that I also appreciate what those who ruled Maharashtra have made it what it is. Major projects have been delivered by SS. It is BJP who is doing this language should be mandatory and what not. Yes the reaction is wrong, especially agter BJP paused at this step due to opposition by Mahrashtra but it is BJP who started this in first place. Do somethin good and don't spoin Mumbai amd Maharashtra to what it was by playing divisive tactocs. Mumbaites are smart and the social unity of people of all religions in Mumbai won't fall for it. It is far too developed to waste time on such matters like this langauge is needed officially etc. Edited July 7, 2025 by crictime

Though, there are few observations which might have gotten overlooked. SS of BalaSaheb Thackrey is vastly different than what it's today. When I use the word SS, do note it's for Uddhav and not for BalaSaheb. Infact, that's the premise of this topic as well. Secondly, Konkan Rail connectivity was brainchild of George Fernandes under the V.P Singh govt, and he was the one who appointed Sreedharan as the head for this project. Considering George Fernandes himself was from Konkan region, he gave every possible push at his end. Infact Central govt owns majority of share of Konkan Railways and KRCL. Hence calling it as SS, INC, NCP brainchild is not right. Again, filtering out all the discussions, coz if we start talking on it then there are so many nuances which will open up and that discussion can be difficult to keep track of. Hooliganism and violence on the cost of language is something which isn't acceptable. And funny part is the same activists who carry the flag of this language formula don't do the same when they're in the areas that you mentioned above. Coz, they know they will face the backlash. While the business folks who are working honestly in Mumbai and are paying taxes to govt., which is in return used by BMC and these activists to feed off their families, does using violence against them makes sense ? Yeah, BJP did played their cards incorrectly when they pushed incorrect language formula. Specially, in the states where local language is deeply rooted with the culture. BJP has this problem where they try to "simplify" each and every thing coz they feel Nationalism is above all. But, in reality it isnt'. People (specially Hindus) are fragmented and carry tremendous amount of insecurity against each other, whether it's on basis on caste or religion. But that simply can't give a freehand to these hooligans to roam on the streets and burn down the city. Realize it or not but it's the "people" who run the city, who create jobs, who employ people and who give tax in return for the infrastructure development. Also, these hooliganism, may seem isolated and ordinary incidents. But if you look at a grand scale (specially on the context of Social media), you can see it makes us extremely vulnerable in falling down to propaganda's. It will make people suspicious of each other just on basis of language. Again, it may seem trivial for most of us who are pretty comfortable in our own secure space. But on the ground, it will lead to disastrous precedences which can burn a well established city down to Ashes. History says, it has happened multiple times in the past, and no guarantee that it won't happen again. BacktoCricaddict 1

Balasahebs 56 flyovers project in Mumbai. 2. Konkan Railway. 3. Other projects and public services done by SS, NCP,SS to make Maharashtra what it is today. 4. Why BJP has not received as much mandate from people of Maharashtra as conpared to other local parties over decades. You see to be more interested in bringinh this slap incident and keeping aside how SS, NCP, INC have made Maharashtra the number one state it is today. Offcourse that is what the thread is about but I woukd rather not keep writing endlessly about it. Not really keen to talk about the slap incident. I have already mentioned it was wrong. That is not what interests me, neither do I support it.
coffee_rules Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 @G_B_ Any insights on this issue and BMC elections? Interesting to see the two cousins patching things up for BMC election under one MVA. What a disgrace from BT SS legacy.

Roughing up people for lack of local language skills, extorting businesses, Reneging on contracts, you name it. Your opinion might be restricted to Mubai streets, but the SS of Balsaheb Thackarey (Thackarey is a Brit Surname, btw) had a greater impact in national politics in the mid-90s with the Hindutva movement and RJB in focus. It brought the change in Indian political scenario where Secularism was reigning and brought Majoritarianism to India. Not the majoritarianism that is defined by western liberal, but the fact that it is not bad to feel pride in being a Hindu. Growing up, the majority community was made to feel that it is doing something wrong with narratives like Hindu rate of growth, cattle class etc. The Hindu community nationally came out of those shackles with politicians like BT. However, he was against anti-national muslims who he used to point out. In fact Thackerays doctor was a Muslim Dr. Jalil Parkar and he too was at the funeral. There were many Muslims who used to listen to Thackerays speech. His Dussehra rally started in 1966 and was carried out for 45 years every Dussehra. It was his last year, aged 86, when he was severly suffering from health issues and he did not gave the speech in person. Instead they showed the video clip of his message at the rally which Uddhav Thackeray gave the speech. When he dies in 2012, his bodybwas draped in Indian Triclour. Hindus gathered in lakhs at Matoshree and Shivaji Park. Even Muslims were in grief. Yusuf Khan the famous bollywood actor who had changed his name to Dilip Kumar when he entered Bollywood cancelled his birthday celebrations which is also on same day. Other Muslims in Maharashtra who even today speak Marathi and Konkani also mourned his death. Garlanded chaddar was offered at Mahim dargah by Muslim religious leaders over the casket to show respect. Not only prominent politicians like Sushma Swaraj, Advani Ji, Arun Jaitley, Sharad Pawar, RR Patil, Walse Patil, Gopinath Munde Nitin Gadkari, Shanawaz Hussain,Prithviraj Chavan, Chagan Bhujbal, Maneka Gandhi etc came to attend funeral, but industrialist like Ambani also attended. Ram Jethmalani was also there. Bpllywood actors kike Amitabh, Sanjay Dutt, Nana Patekar, Reitesh Dwshmukh and others also attended. Theatres immediately cancelled screenings of movies. Apart from him, only Lokmanya Tilak's funeral was also done in public place at Chowpatty. Balashaeb in himself was an era in Maharshtra politics. Maharashtra Congress leaders, to name a few prominent ones like Yashvantrao Chavan, Vasantdada Patil were involved in freedom fight. They were jailed by Britishers. There were many others too who were part of this. It was not just about going street to street and door to door asking for votes like politicians of today. They have spent years in jails, given their blood for Maharashtra and India. Samyukta Maratha Movement is a major event in Maharashtra history which ked to formation of Maharashtra. It has defined a lot of happenings in Maharashtra politics. The congress leaders of the western Maharashtra like Yashvantrao Chavan, Sharad Pawar and many others have strong connect with farmers in rural Maharashtra. BJP does not has that connect even today. There are reasons why the Congress was so successful in getting farmers on their side but it is a lenghty discussion in itself. It still helps Congress and NCP as many leaders who were involed in previous major events who have now come to NCP with their vote banks. And other events like NCP being founded in 90's also has split of Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray more than a decade later, SS MLA'and NCP MLA's moving in alliance with BJP have changed the dynamics. Vidharbha, Karad, Satara, Sangli and that belt has always been about big NCP politicians like Yashvantrai Chavan, Sharad Pawar etc. Even SS struggles there, forget about BJP. BJP needs to win on its own, otherwise they will not have CM of their choice like they had to make Manohar Joshi, Rane and Shinde as CM. It does not helps that much to have coalition government as they need to allign with BJP at centre and Maharashtra is a state which they would want to be in complete synergy with. There are strong renowned politicians in opposition which is why they fail in Maharshtra more often than not. They need to devlop many more politicians who will give them wins. Good work with the rural population is a must if thet want to win on their own.Tough job but possible. Stan AF 1
