Both have played 61 tests. KLR will play 20-25 more tests as he is 33 and going good but he has got some good backing despite not performing for so long but Who is better after playing 61 tests?a9b285501d4c9932da1d26d5543a5216.jpg

Vijay had 3 400 plus series. Kela for the first time in his career is going to have 400 plus series. Hope he boosts his average in this series. Will be good for India

Vijay better, had an alarming dip in returns in his last couple of years, otherwise was a very good contributor who had good series/tests in RSA, Aus, Eng. 41-42 averaging opener is gold, which he was for most of his career. Had killer instinct unlike KL, he could score over the course of a whole series and not just initial 1-2 tests. Better at home, and against spin. Key reason behind our rise to number 1 from 7th position.

KL is much more talented though, has quality runs in tough conditions, but can never rely on him. Massive underachiever. More like Markram but the Saffer has delivered in pressure situations unlike KL.

In praise of ‘The Monk’: Murali Vijay and the art of leaving

"On that famed England tour in 2014, amidst Virat Kohli getting sucked into playing outside his off-stump, Vijay faced more than 1,000 balls, the only batsman to do so. But that’s not the most telling stat. Of the 996 balls he played off the quicks, Vijay left 403 alone, or more than 40 per cent."

Under Kohli as captain, and with the 2015-21 bowling attack we would have won a couple of series out of 2013-14 RSA, 2014 Eng, 2014-15 Aus....which featured Vijay at his best. KL's knocks in SENA probably resulted in more wins but he had the bowling attack to back his scores.

More than his cricket, Vijay will always be remembered for what he did to DK, though DK was the ultimate winner, Dipika Pallikal>>>>Deepika Padukone.

Not to mention DK bought a house next to Sueprstar's house

Vijay.

To me it felt like Vijay got worse after he started playing more IPL.

He was a very good opener for a while, first good one after the declines of Gambhir and Sehwag?

KL can still overtake him but will need at least 2 good years imo where he shows consistency.

Vijay batted at a time when pitches were much flatter.

2014-15 Australian pitches were some of the flattest ever .

And there's no comparison with Saffer pitches from 2013 and 2017/18 onwards pitches either.

Difficult comparison.

We saw how Kohli batted in 2014 England series.

Vijay's Hundred at Gabba-2014 was the finest I have ever witnessed. That was the only lively track of that tour and he scored 144 on the first day.

Vijay Gabba '14 and Kohli Perth '18 were knocks of the highest class, but unfortunately we lost both those games.

Another knock I forgot to mention was Vijay's 95 at Lords 2014 in 2nd innings. Very hard fought innings while setting a target, He was crawling at snail pace scoring even slower than Pujara but scored 95 at SR of 35 and managed to spend so much time on tough pitch. He was 7th wicket to fall in that innings. Mostly we remember Rahane for the 1st innings 100 but Vijay's innings was equally good if not better.

Vijay was good in IPL for initial few years only. 2009-2011 and was pivotal in CSK winning title. He was picked for 2010 wt20 after good IPL where DK-Vijay Opened innings for us. His test peak started from 2013 and continued for 3-4 good years.
