One word. Fielding. That is where they step up above everyone. Just look at SA. They should have easily thrashed NZ in the 2015 semi final. Under pressure De kock missed easy run outs, they dropped catches left right center towards the end. Australia on the other hand is very very focused on bringing extra to fielding. It is not only helping the team. It also brings energy to the team. Good fielding under pressure always pays. Same way lethargic fielding can do the negative effect. It will bring down the morale of the team. Even toay they put down 3 catches.

Aus always use current form to win WCs,they get those guys this time they will have Inglis and Green ,who knows Head may get dropped

Started with 1987 WC where Veletta, Simon O'Donnell came out of syllabus. That was the worst ever squad to win any ICC trophy IMO, 7th ranked and only ahead of SL/Zim. Them beating Imran's Pak in the SF in Lahore must rank as the greatest upset in the history of WCs. 

 

Reiffel, Moody in 1999 WC. Bang average but broke Pak's back in the final.

 

Bichel suddenly emerged in 03 WC and won a couple of lost games for them against NZ, Eng....then embarrassed us later that year in TVS tri-series and disappeared. 

 

Bracken, Tait had very short careers but matched McGrath in the 2007 WC, those 3 and Hogg were the 4 best bowlers that tournament and will go down as the most dominant campaign by any team in WCs. 

 

Faulkner in 2015, MOTM in the final, where is he now? 

 

Labu will probably never play another ODI for them, but he played a big hand in that Nov 19 final. 

 

Axar gives me similar vibes, low profile guy who rises to the challenge in big games. Guys like Madan Lal, Munaf Patel in the past. 

 

 cricketing culture, players are honest to themselves and coaches and system is honest to the players too. They play till their prime and happily retire afterwards.

There is no culture of creating white elephants. Player like Ponting were drop-able if not performing.

If they bring some1 who is seasoned player in their domestic system can directly plug into the team and perform the role they are given right away

NZ will be the team to beat.  They are generating some serious young talent all off a sudden.

Impressive pace and all rounder stocks already for them.

 

India if takes things seriously can muster up a strong squad as well with mix of youth and experience.

Need to let Ro Ko go sooner.

 

Give likes of Jaiswal Tilak Iyer Harshit type guys a consistent run in ODI format.

yes cant compete with 2 oldies, irrespective of how they have done so far.

 

Need to groom a pace AR to support Pandu,maybe Bawa. Apart from Kuldeep, all spin bowling should be done by batsmen

Think we will win 26 T20 WC but not 27 WC. I expect Rohit and Kohli to play all ODIs in the leadup and get ruled out last minute (Ro is a prime candidate for career ending injury with all the load on his knees) or lose form completely. I still have some faith in Kohli (unless he loses motivation) but none at all in the captain. Guys like Jaiswal, Sai won't get enough matches and we will pay for that. 

 

Maybe 20-25 ODIs before the event. Rachin will have 70-80 ODIs (plus experience of 2 50 over ICC tourneys) by then, same with guys like Brook, Green. How much can Where are our sub-25 batsmen? Our batting stocks for T20s and tests are great, not for ODIs.

BCCI must prioritize ODIs after the T20 WC next Feb-Mar, last year I think we played only 3 ODIs which is comical. Our next T20 WC after that will be in 2028 November, so more than 2.5 years gap.

 

We play only 5 tests next year, at least target 30-35 ODIs (most of them in bouncy SENA, even Zim/WI/Ireland are fine) and have rotation policy to build a 20 member pool. T20 WC, CT, WTC and all are fine, but 50 overs WC is the real deal. WTC may reach that level once they make the system fairer and more logical. 

 

We can always return to T20 cricket post the 27 WC.

Only Ind-RSA test series in Dec and the Ashes are tasty. Then the T20 WC.

 

RSA isn't playing a single home test this season, NZ is playing WI (2 tests in FTP but now converted to 3) for mama to statpad.

Think they are not playing any this time because they have to get the sa20 done early this year. No other slot for it.

NZ's population is less than the first floor of my apartment block. They punch WAY above their weight in sports.
