But he was damn good in 23 WC as well as 25 CT. 

 

Usually you see top 3 batsmen topping the stats columns. But in 23 WC, Iyer and NZ's Daryl Mitchell were standouts coming in at 4, also look at their avg/SRs....one can only make cases for Kohli, Rohit, maybe Rachin, over them and they were all top 3.

 

Iyer has been impactful and clutch as well, WC final he failed but he contributed in SF as well as both CT KOs, 3/4 successes in KOs is very very impressive. Contrast that to someone like Gill who has failed in almost every single KO in all formats, including both WTC finals.

I think Iyer's performance in 23 was best ever by an Indian number 4 in WCs, even better than Yuvraj's 2011 campaign. 530 runs, average 67, SR 115, 3 matchwinning knocks including against NZ in SF. 

 

Still his place in 25 CT was in doubt. GG didn't even want him in squad, and if not for Kohli's niggle in 1st game he would have spent whole tournament watching from the benches.

Axar another clutch guy. Axar and Pandya hitting their peaks in their early 30s led to the twin wins.

Nah. ODIs is the best format for Iyer. He has played 50+ T20Is and hasn't done anything to talk about. He has two successful ODI World tournaments.

In odis he will get his chances and that should be the extent he should be getting his chances.

Still pissed he could have snatched Golden bat in CT from Rachin.  Was only few runs away from his tally.

 

Gifted his wicket after the hard work in the final.

 

Was easily best batsman for us in WC23 and CT25 without a doubt.

Without him we lose WC Semifinal and CT final imo.
