Japan can be the best complimentary partner by far that India could get in the world.

I have visited the country several times not limited to Tokyo but - Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya.

They make large parts of the West look like developing.

My impressions of Japan :

1) Squeaky clean and stunningly beautiful country - everywhere.

2) Amazingly polite people ( nobody in the world compares )

3) Everything is orderly

4) They do so  so much with so little ( they have zero natural resources on land - which is both earthquake and volcano prone )

5) They are as densely populated as India  - but light years ahead in terms of being humane, civic habits, mannerisms and being orderly.

I don't think any other country compliments India quite like Japan.

They have a massively aging population that is declining in numbers !!  India is at the cusp of a potential demographic dividend and huge manpower

They have hi-tech to offer without playing geopolitical cards or politics. There is nothing that Japan can't do - easily the most resilient race on the planet.

Literally everything coming from Japan is synonymous with quality and respect.

Both India and Japan can be perfect partners - perfectly complimenting each other.

All these observations are surface level.

They are a homogeneous society that don't welcome people that are different to them. Live there and find out.

They also have a massive problem with "shame". They don't ask for help out of fear of shame. Hence, the massive suicide rates.

Did you notice the barriers at train stations?

I have lived in Tokyo for several months while I was consulting at MUFG bank. This allowed me to travel into the country outside of metropolitan Tokyo.

I have not had a single bad day or made to feel slightly unwelcome.  Infact I felt ashamed and embarassed because I could not keep up with politeness of my clients who were much senior to me age wise. They do have a problem with shame/ suicides and train stations have barriers to prevent suicides - but every nation has drawbacks.

Japan is a tremendously merit oriented society - you can't get into a top Japanese institution with a recommendation letter from a big shot or donation unlike Western universities.

I have not see a more humane and considerate society anywhere in the world. Nobody is even close.

Yes they are highly homogenous and a civilizational state and thats why they are facing the demographic problem because they don't permit mass immigration.

It takes several generations for Western nations ( that are not even homogenous ) to be accepting on immigrants.

Australia which is much newer to foreign immigration compared to lets say US or UK for a long time has /was perceived as racist.

But Japanese people are a zillion times better than Aussies.

And we are not here to reform the Japanese society - we greatly compliment each other and they can be our best partners to shore up our manufacturing and industrial capacity. Nobody does it like the Japanese. This is a society that built and operationalized bullet trains in 1964. This is a society that produced world class passenger vehicles that the entire west together could not compete with. Dominated electronics for 30 years too.

All of these hard engineering expertise can massively benefit India.

And we should have dozens of such collaborations --

Humane and considerate?

- Karoshi, death by overwork?

- Aokigahara, suicide forest at the base of Mount Fuji?

I could go on and on.

Are we even talking about the same thing?

Facts count more than your opinion.  Japanese are universally recognized for excellence, high ethics and being uber polite and helpful - I have experienced it myself -first hand not as a tourist, but someone who has lived there for a few months.

Japan have a lot to offer India to help speed industrialization and we have enormous manpower ( that can be trained ) to help them.

No society is perfect and without flaws. If you are intent on poking holes just for the sake of it, foreigners can label India as a country of rapists, a casteist society, uncivilized people that dump their trash anywhere and everywhere.Just like that would be an idiotic prejudice, so is your judgement of Japan.

Indians should move to different countries as much as possible, influence countries globally and bring resources back to India.

Local resources are not going to cut it.

Japan is ideal to learn how to build world class efficiency and scale in production / manufacturing.  Before China became the thing - Japan used to do it.

Dominating all consumer electronics, automobiles, robots, bullet trains for 30 years - before Korea, Taiwan and China caught up.

They don't have a lot of natural resources - but their manufacturing expertise, and FDI in India can be vital for our growth.

You're muddying a simple issue.

Yeah, their trains run on time. And their cities are immaculately clean. And they are very polite and respectful to tourists/foreigners.

A humane and considerate society, they are not. They had massive suicide rates in 2014/2015 when I was there.

10 years later, their suicide rates are still amongst the highest. EVERYONE, from youngsters to middle aged to elderly are quietly killing themselves.

These aren't opinions, they are facts.

If your benchmark of a "human and considerate" society is one that has high suicide rates, than, there is nothing to talk about.

Dude you are not making any sense - I am advocating a stronger partnership with Japan because of massively complimentary strengths.

And you are ranting about your perception of their cultural problem.

What does that have to do with leveraging Japan to boost India's industrial capabilities and knowhow ?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_suicide_rate

Even your facts are wrong / outdated about their suicide rate - based on wiki ( which has citations to World Health Organization data ) ....Japan is ranked 49.

India, US, Sweden, Finland South Korea, Belgium, Russia have higher suicide rates than Japan.

Rank is #17. Serial No. is 49. Higher than india usa etc. but lower than south korea etc.

Japan used to have very high rate 2 decades back. 27 per 100000 in 2003, highest in the world. Today it is 17. Very good improvement. South Indian suicide rate is significantly more than japan. @EnterTheVoid https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_states_and_union_territories_of_India_by_suicide_rate

You're the confused one.

No one is against greater India - Japan collaboration.

Their society is not as rose tinted as you make it out to be.

Still infinitely better than India and most Western countries from my personal experience. Pick your benchmark.

It's better than what it was. But it is still very high.

Stats don't tell the full story. They literally don't ask for help and suffer in silence because of "shame".

My bad, you are right, I thought it was sorted by rank. Surprised that South Korea ranks the 2nd highest. Even Belgium is higher than Japan and Belgium is supposed to have one the highest quality of life / standard of living on the planet.

South Korea is up there as well.

They have nets on sky scrapers to stop people from jumping off buildings.

Walk down any of the major bridges in Seoul and you see placards advising against suicide.

Japan and South Korea, it's the same problem rooted in shame.

Japan, South Korea, EU nations, UK, Australia

1. Rich first world countries with labour shortage and can get immigrants as well as send manufacturing etc

2. Unlike USA and China, too small to be super powers so an industrializing/rich India doesn't affect them as they have no global ambitions

OP is completely oblivious to the xenophobia that exists among Japs/Koreans for the brown skinned.

Heck, even Anglo Saxons respect South Asians more.
