TM continues to back him and Nitish Reddy to bolster after below average lower order and to prepare them for the tougher assignments in SENA. Like Gambhir said in post match conference, will be unfair on them if they were picked only for SENA tests, have to given chances in easir home conditions as well to help their development. Besides Gill, the only ones picked for all three formats. NKR didn't bowl much this series and Sundar batting too low. That's not called giving chances. or backing. You have to develop him for tough away tours

They need to give chances to evey1 in this team, as mentioned no1 is exp. and most of them apart from Jaiswal and Kuldeep are not the top end of the talent. KL is a senior whose place will always under scrutiny with test avg of 35 Sai is #3 selected based on IPL performance his FC avg is just 40 Gill , he is the captain who had a test avg. of 35 2 series prior. Kuldeep is trying to cement his spot in test side has played just 15 tests Sundar is not a test level bowler atm jurel was a lucky punt that worked is a backup keeper nkr is neither a batter nor a bowler , he has potential but need to work heavily on both , has fc batting avg. of 25 and his pace is not up there where he can play tests in ind Its like you need to give confidence and game time to every1 , you give chance to some1 then some1 else would have the same issue of not getting a chance Edited October 14, 2025 by tapandrun

But only as an allrounder He won MVP award withint the team. He is not going anywhere. His only competition is Tanush Kotian who is a no.10 batsman with above average batting ability. But in terms of bowling Sundar >> Tanush. Both average 28 in domestic. I don't think any other spinner is significantly better than SUndar in domestic. Harsh DUbe, Suthar are equal or below Sundar level. Edited October 14, 2025 by vvvslaxman
vvvslaxman Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 Watch this ashwin segment. They talk about Nitish reddy and his non-utility. Ashwin feels Reddy should not have played but Padikkal should have played.

In many matches he was given a bowl after 50th or 60th over. This is typical Gambhir's template when he was leading KKR. Often times he would totally abandon spinners, or totally abandon seamers depending on the surface. He will keep both of them in the squad. Reddy hardly bowled anything. He is their back up just in case pitch suddenly helps seamers. Gambhir isn't captaining the side. Decisions on field are taken by captain.

crictime Posted October 17, 2025 Posted October 17, 2025 As someone who is not a specialist spinner, there will be many matches where he will fail with the ball. Hopefully, on these bad days as a bowler, he will chip in with some runs which he is well capable off. Ultimate_Game 1

He is backup spinner to first choice spinners like Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. Have not checked his bowling record but he is doing well for a backup spinner who plays some decent batting innings at times. A utility bowler rather than one of the 4 main bowlers of the team and a handy bat to have. Edited October 17, 2025 by crictime
Gollum Posted October 17, 2025 Posted October 17, 2025 (edited) Bowling toh do pehle. Was our best spinner against NZ last year, comfortably outbowled Jadeja in England. Bowling average 30, SR 54 is quite good considering he has played more than half his games in spin unfriendly wickets of Eng and Aus. No concern whatsoever, he is a certainty in the XI irrespective of conditions. Ceiling is also very high, clutch af. lemsip Posted October 17, 2025 Posted October 17, 2025 That is correct. Sundar is hardly given any overs and bought in behind Jadeja and Kuldeep so usually there are neither a lot of overs or wickets left for him to clean up. He outbowled both Ashwin and Jadeja in the NZ home series and he has been doing ok so far. There is no issue with his spot in the team. Jadeja has looked far more toothless than him as a regular spinner in recent tests. cowboysfan 1
deepdynamo Posted October 17, 2025 Posted October 17, 2025 Washi is a batsman first and a very good third spinner. Kuldeep is No.1 spinner right now in India. Jadeja has lost his effectiveness though and is a batsman these days. Infact we should groove Harsh Dubey or Suthar ( both can bat as well) as a replacement for Jaddu. But that has to wait till the end of this WTC cycle.
bsriharsha Posted October 18, 2025 Posted October 18, 2025 Sundar should be a proper middle order batsman in test cricket. The fact that he can hold one end up in test cricket while bowling is a huge plus. Manucrick 1
vvvslaxman Posted October 18, 2025 Posted October 18, 2025 SUndar bowls 13 overs per innings in the domestic. At test level 12 overs. For comparison. Jadeja bowls 20 overs per innings at test level. Jadeja and SUndar have played 10 matches together Jadeja 10 matches 31 wickets 29.67 average 53.5 strike rate Sundar 10 matches 27 wickets 26.33 average 46.8 strike rate Clearly Jadeja is over-used in comparison with Sundar purely for his experience. There is no absolutely no evidence current Jadeja is better than Current Sundar. I think he would have had much better numbers were he given more overs. cowboysfan 1
G_B_ Posted October 18, 2025 Author Posted October 18, 2025 Long term sunder in the sub is going to depend on kuldeep being in top form. Jadeja is clearly done in cricket. India should play a proper 2nd spinner. Sunder should be part of sena for sure at 7. Supporting 4 pacers. Spinners who can chip in average 20 with bat at 8 is what india needs at home or away to sl bd etc. I dont see point of nitish reddy in sub either. I dont see point of him in test team.
